Ducati 1098R Test - This video review of the Ducati 1098 is informative and interesting at the same time. It sounds like he is a big fan of the traction control and of course it sounds like s#x on wheels. But the price? ouch!

I love the 1098R from what is being said and written, but i wonder also about the RC8. Itll be cheaper and is high on my list when i get my settlement.

the 1098 is 17 grand base which is less by far then the RC8 is supposed to be. Even the R which is 20Gs is less then the RC8. The 848 is everything you can use on the street and more. I rather spend 13 on that and save 10 grand even though the RC is awesome

I wanted this bike so bad, when it FIRST came out... but alas, I don't have 20K to throw at a bike, instead I bought my 06 1000RR with 1000km's on it for 5K.

quite a difference in price.... but its no 1098S!!!! don't get me wrong I love my fireblade! BUT a lot of us would rather have that bike!

Doom, what is base on the RC8? Dude here in odessa at the KTM shoppe was mentioning it being less than the 1098R yesterday.

ok i JUST checked online at a Dealer here in Edmonton, Alberta Canada, and they are selling their 08 Ducati 1098S for $45 000 Cdn. !!!!!!! WHAT the Hell are they thinking??????????

Why not the regular 1098 over the 848 then? I have seen plenty of used 1098 for around 10-15K depending on mileage and performance parts etc.

MSRP on 848 is $12,995
MSRP on base 1098 is $14,995
MSRP on 1098S is $19,995
MSRP on the 1098R is somewhere in the $30K range. I think actually above $30K. Notice on the video that in the UK MSRP is 24K (pounds) that is $48K USD. So the RC8 will cost less than a 1098R. I also think that it won't match the performance of the 1098R though. The much more realistic comparison is the RC8 vs. the 1098S. I think the RC8 will compare okay against the S but it will get smoked by the R but it should for the price difference.

For me, one word, handling. They say there is a huge difference in the amount of work required to throw them around. I don't need an extra 30hp. I'll love the easier turn in though. My dealer just sent an email yesterday letting me know that they have a demo 848 ready for me to take for a test ride. If it ever warms up I'm going to go take it for a ride and I'll report back.

The 1098R is closer to 40k, the Duc shop up here just got one. If youre not a 999R owner or a Ducati collector, good luck getting one. I think Ducati is offering the 400 that are coming to America to certain people first. And if youre not a collector, just buy a base 1098, and stick the 3+G's, over the S, in your pocket or buy all those little carbon bits and some pipes.

Be sure and let us know how the test ride goes. I'm a bit like you, I think the 848 is about the perfect size.

yeah sorry I missread all that. The R is way more. I meant the regular and the S are 17-20 here while the 848 is 13.

Yeah the RC8 is way less then the R but slightly more then the 1098S. From what I have seen about both the RC8 and 1098R I don't think the RC is in the same league but I also wouldnt spend 40K for a bike unless it was the turbine bike! LOVE that thing lol. I just don't see the R being 20 grand better then the S. Even if it is I am not a 20 grand better rider on an R then I would be on an S anyway. I suppose its all about what you can afford. For someone that makes several hundered grand a year 40K for a bike is like me spending 10 I guess. I believe I would have more fun on my 929 at 5K then an R for 40. I would be far to worried about hurting the bike to ride it like its ment to be.

Yeah, that's kinda how I feel except I don't even think I'm a $2K better rider so I can't even justify the 1098 over the 848. I'd rather spend that $2K on the termi slip ons or a TTX rear shock. Your second part is what makes me wonder if I should just upgrade to a 600RR and call it good. I'd probably have just as much fun on the 600RR as I would on the 848 but for whatever reason I am just completely in love with the 848.
