| 01 Ducati 996R vs 09 CBR1000RR Hi guys!
This is my first post. I have been lurking for a couple of months now. I have always liked the CBR1000RR but the 996R fell into my lap.
I know this is a Fireblade forum so this might be the best place to ask. Hopefully I will get objective points of views. Thanks in advance.
I am seriously considering trading my 996R for an 09 CBR1000RR. I know I will enjoy riding the CBR more but I also know that I will miss the character of the 996R.
I ride to work everyday (less than 10kms) and do canyons on the weekends. Nothing wrong with the 996R... its just that the RR is "seducing" me and whispering in my ear.... Its saying let the bitch go and get me instead... You will have more fun with me!
Please help me with my decision. Should I trade in my 996R which has the following upgrades: CF Tank. CF Airtubes. BMC Air filter. CF Airbox. CF undertail oil breather. Complete CF fairings. Full Arrow Ti exhaust system. Aftermaket rearsets. CF Hugger. CF swing arm protector. Seargent seat. Un-used brandnew PCIII. Full Ohlins suspension and damper(All stock parts are still with me and will be part of the trade). Extra set of track fairings (never used as I have not had the chance to do track days yet). Original rear stand, bike cover and wall plaque that came with the bike when bought from Ducati. It is 1 of 350 996Rs in the world and is in perfect condition.
To be traded in for an 09 CBR1000RR Repsol with less than 1000kms on the clocks.
I am torn! My mind says RR my heart say 996R. I would have both if I could afford it.
What do you guys think?

Ho hum! I am sure to miss the 996R sights and sounds.
Anyone here who owns an 08/09 RR thinks differently and thinks I should keep the 996R? That would be an eye opener. |

| Re: 01 Ducati 996R vs 09 CBR1000RR If I were the owner of a 1 of 350 in the world limited edition "R" Bostrom replica motorcycle specialy being the original owner....
I would never part with such a bike, Like I will never sell or trade my RC51.
1 of 350 or 1 in a million?
good luck with you're desision, but remember the grass is allways greener...

| Re: 01 Ducati 996R vs 09 CBR1000RR Welcome
The only right solution is to find a way to own both, even if that means the 1000RR has to be pre-owned. Delete the word "or" from your vocabulary. |

| Re: 01 Ducati 996R vs 09 CBR1000RR you have a very rare ducati i would say keep it and when you can aford to own a second bike then buy the 1000rr because you will probly never get another chance to own a bike as rare as you now currently own. the repsol is a beautiful bike but that ducati is a very sexy bike also. just my 2cp

| Re: 01 Ducati 996R vs 09 CBR1000RR As a former Ducati owner(748R) and having ridden a 996R on several occations, stick with it,the Blade will be much better to ride but you have a very desirable Ducati which you would miss if you sold it. |

I just hope I have the patience to hold off and keep the RR out of my mind. Blocking out the RR is quite difficult. |

Will the Blade make my 996R feel very ancient or just a little old? |

What is the difference between the 996R and the 08/09 RR in terms of riding it? Can you enlighten me? I am very interested. I have been trying to arrange for a test ride of the 09RR but my friends and my schedules have not jived yet. |

| Re: 01 Ducati 996R vs 09 CBR1000RR The Blade is several generations better. The 996R will feel much slower to respond in the corners. The brakes (brembo's)are very good on the 996R and probably sharper than on the blade but the Blade has good feel. The motor on the Blade will just blow the 996R into the weeds,it smoother, much much more powerful with good mid range wallop. The 996R riding position is far more bum up and wristy than the Blade and in traffic you wont get a cooked ar$e on the Blade. The 996R has a wonderful airbox and exhaust note which is missing on the blade unless you put a can on it.The suspension on the Blade is way way better and plush in comparison. So to summerize, the blade is balanced, fast, complient and way faster but the 996R is a classic so it realy depends on what is important to you.You should take on out for a demo ride.I have always found that any "R" badged Ducati is very track focused and is pleasure and pain in one beautiful package where as the Blade is just easy to ride and better at everything. If having a V twin is important to you then try the new KTM RC8 "R".A very old friend of mine races them here in the UK (Francis Williamson) and i had a go on the "R" badged one yesterday and was completly cobsmacked by it.Its beautifly balanced and very powerful and much smoother than equivelant Ducati.
Good luck choosing.

| Re: 01 Ducati 996R vs 09 CBR1000RR Put all the stocker bits back on it and sell it, then sell the ohlins susp. and all the other add-ons you have.
Comparing that 01 technology to the CBR's 08/09 technology is like comparing a 57 chevy to a C6 vette, no comparison. I sell Ducs in the Summer, as well as many other fine marques, the old stuff like yours is nice, the new stuff i.e. 1198 is worlds better.
At the end of the day it's a machine, heavy (prolly 40+lbs heavier), low HP (like 40hp less then the CBR?) with dated technology and questionable reliability when ran hard. Unless you don't mind spending the loot a new 1198 ($16.5K) I'd go for the new CBR ($10K). |
