Anyone have a line on "reasonable" MC insurance in NJ.. Seems like NJ's insurance market is just nuts.. Not to mention "sportbike" being a dirty word to insurance agents..

My current insurance put me in a real Jam here.. I have State Farm.. called for a quote when researching pricing/bikes.. no problem, $490, for the year full coverage (State Farm is known for really low rates in NJ).. They wrote the policy, I went and picked up the bike and everything was fine until about a couple weeks later, when I got a letter from the main office stating that they were dropping my policy due to my driving record (same record for over a year).. My auto policy is fine regarding point limits (driving record).. but turns out that MC policies are voluntary for the insurance companies so they can choose not to cover for whatever points, etc.. dating back more than the conventional 3 years.. --Just wish they would of told me this when they "wrote" the policy..

Anyway now I can't find "reasonable" insurance.. The big players like Progressive, Geico, AIG, etc.. aren't even avail in NJ.. Rider Insurance (a popular MC/only insurance in NJ) requires no more than two tickets (I have three) and one accident in the last 3 years for sport bikes, and they come in around $1500 for the year/full.. The one or two replies I've gotten from many calls/emails have come in around $6000.. and at that price I'm gonna have to sell the bike .. So if anyone has any suggestions on an insurance source I'd really appreciate it --but it's not looking good.. So I may also have an '04 CBR1000RR for sale -- w/600miles..

Whew, that sucks. I'm assuming you need full coverage, not just liability? Have you checked with Foremost? 1-800-237-2060. They're out of Grand Rapids, MI, but they insure in NJ. Don't know if this will help. One thing they do that others don't is that they'll write a policy for liability + theft/comprehension, without collision. Usually it's liability only, or the whole collision/comprehension thing. Guess it's worth a shot. The motorcycle insurance situation in NJ is pretty bad.

Yea, it's a real pain.. But thanks for the info/suggestion.. I do need full coverage, but good to know about the comp without collision availability/angle.. The two (only) replies I had gotten from agents mentioned Formost as willing to offer coverage, but at $6000.. I haven't spoken with them directly though, so it might be worth a shot.. I have a list of some more agents/brokers to contact as well, but I'm not expecting too much as I'm running out of options.. --Thanks again..

Give the Foremost folks a call. They're super nice to talk to. Their from MN so they're laid back alot.

I got my ins cancelled by State Farm because I had 1 claim. Anyway, to make a long story short, they have you by the short hairs. MC ins isn't regulated in any way in NJ so they can darn well do what they please.

I like Foremost because of their options. Their pricing wasn't too bad for me either but I have no points and one accident.

You could always check Rider Insurance Company 973-258-9500. I've also received a flyer from Hughes Recreational www.hughesrecreational.com. They, using Aegis Insurance, are writing policies in NJ. 888-321-1210. They'll provide a quote online.

Thanks.. Looks like I might have a slim shot yet.. (as I just took pics of the bike today to post for sale ) I'm planning to call Foremost and a few others after the weekend, and just filled out the online req. for hughesrec... I appreciate the feedback, hadn't heard of hughes recreational. So there's some hope yet.. --Rider's a no go as they limit two tickets and one accident for sportbikes (they allow a bit more leeway for cruisers though)..
