Assistance with Tennessee move II

Can anybody tell me if there is any catch to taking a non-Tennessee registered/titled vehicle and registering it there? For example in CA you cannot bring a vehicle that was purchased outside of CA into CA if it has less than 7,500 miles. The other catch for CA is there is a time period where if you just bought a new vehicle and registered/title outside of CA then register/title it in CA they can charge you sales tax even though you just paid sales tax in the previous state you lived and bought the vehicle. I want to say something like it’s within 90 days. I ask because I just bought a new 2005 F150 and didn’t think about it until now if I’ll have any issues going back to TN with it.

That stuff only applies to CA. You're fine taking vehicles other places.

Re: Assistance with Tennessee move II

I was hoping that was the case. I searched TN's website for vehicle rules. They didn't discuss anything of the sort. It seems to be pretty straight forward. I was just worried I wasn't looking in the right place.

I sold the 954 last night and the house goes on the market this Tuesday. So the pressure is growing, I need to find me a J O B !

think of everything that California does then flush it you are moving south Also NEVER say that they do it better in California as this will get you branded as a D_m Yankee.

A friend of mine tells folks that do that "Delta has flights out hourly"

Ahh so I take it you decided to make the move. Congrats. You'll like it here I think.

You should be fine with the vehicle move no additional sales tax. They'll just have to issue a new title to your bank since you are moving here.

Hope you get another bike soon after you get here cause you'll be dying to rides the roads.

Hope the move goes smooth. Drop me a line if you need any help once you get here.

Can't believe I didn't see this thread two weeks ago... Good luck..

Re: Assistance with Tennessee move II

Yeah I'm committed. Our house sold in six hours. Our realtor told us we were asking a little more than comparable house in my area so it would take about a month to sell. Now my wife, kids and I are going to move into an apartment until the kids are out of school. Then we are heading to the Johnson City area!

Re: Assistance with Tennessee move II

you'll probably need an out of state inspection to register it.

BZZZZZ this ain't California or Canada. We are still of the opinion that government sucks so don't have much. Of course TN is cursed with TennCare aka HillaryCare the prototype.

Tenncare is about to go completely tits up.. If it wasn't for one greedy ass lawyer who keeps suing the state over it then it would already be gone.

And there is no vehicle inspection in Tennessee.

Re: Assistance with Tennessee move II

Well yes I did move but only to the next city over (still here in CA). My life has been ultra hectic. The house sold but then a week before the escrow was suppose to close the buyers couldn't get money from the lender so they were going to back out. Which was OK with my wife and I because we just found out she is pregnant! So we figured we should stay in CA until she gives birth because we have good health insurance and good doctors here. So we stop the moving process only to be told 2 days after the original agreed close of escrow date that they still want the house and will be able to close in another two days. I told them to pound sand and they breached the contract. They responded by saying I can back out but I'll be liable for just a little over $20,000 in penalties. I talked with some other realtors and a real estate lawyer. While technically I had some legal backing they had a lot more (buyers have a lot of protection under the CA laws). It was a toss up my lawyer said. They were acting in good faith and doing what they could and escrows typically close a few days late anyways. All points that would probably help them win. So we moved out and are now trying to gather our bearings. We would like to move to TN but don't know when. So 90% of our stuff is in storage and I sold my 954 and LTZ quad. I'm going nuts without the bike. I'm trying to find a cheap bike that I can offload in a hurry if we do up in move soon.
