Need the lowdown on GPS

Looking to get a Garmin GPSmap60cs or 76cs, or a Magellan Meridian color. How much detail(secondary and back roads) comes w/ the basemap? I run Mac and don't want to fiddle with Virtual PC to load maps. Just wondering if any of you use these units or ones that use a similar basemap and know the limitations of the standard setup. Thanks for any info.

The basemap won't give you anything but major roads. You'll also be missing out on all the data for restaurants, hotels, gas stations, rest areas, etc.

Re: Need the lowdown on GPS

Just get a 128meg or 256meg card for it and you'll be able to fit a large perimeter around your area. You shouldn't need to load data often anyway.

I agree with Conq on all these points....

A small memory unit can work just fine unless you don't want to download detail often. In that case get a large chip or multiple chips that you can preload....

If you get a Garmin, you have to use their MapSource software. (~$100)
