Re: Anyone own one of these?

Nope I have a helmet cam and put the dv camera in the top of my backpack. Works fine for me although I am sure it is not track worthy.

Re: Anyone own one of these?

Ditto the helmetcam.

I find it a much easier image to watch. Whether the camera is mounted to the bodywork or the rider, it produces a smoother image than a tank cam. A tank based mount always seems to shake more.

Tank mounts also only go in one place [duh]. So you're never getting more than one perspective. Another irritating factor is that cop who might use the speed footage to write you a bunch of tickets if the image mostly comprises your instrument cluster.

Helmetcams can go lots of places and generally make it difficult to read speedometers. I've seen some creative video using them (hint: chaincam) in different locations mounted on the bodywork.

Helmetcam based footage just seems better to watch, IMO.

Any of you guys have some footage of your helmet cams? You've almost sold me on buying a helmet cam instead of a tank mount.

I have a friend whos camera stoped working because of the vibration from a hard mount like that. The lipstick style cameras are not as high defintion, but they're a bit more practical. You dont need to mount them on the bike. They arent as conspicuous. You can pan if mounted to the helmet. The FOV is usually wider and more interesting. You can also tape over the speedo for either application...

These are done on the helmet. I'll have to ftp one over (later) that has it mounted on the side of my SuperHawk.

I just bought that same camera mount and used it for the 1st time at willow last weekend.. easy to mount pretty low profile so you can still tuck behind the windshield of the bike... well worth it in my opinion

I do have something similar to that I use for street riding on the 929. I would not use it for track time for fear of damaging the camera in a get off. I also have the helmet camera that I use for track use only that I have mounted in the front fairing. On the TZ

Yes they are awesome! OK, I am a little biased, I make them.

There was some concern over cops seeing the camcroder... When on the road I point the camera higher and don't record the guages and point it lower to get the guages for track days.

Before I started making these I used a helmet cam. I prefer the camera mount for several reasons. Filming form a helmet can (when mounted on your helmet) can produce some hard to watch video. Every head turn to look back gets a shot of the side of the road and with all your head movement makes it hard to watch. Also the optics and microphone on your camcorder are much better than a helmet cam. I sold a camera mount today to one of the riders in our group that uses a helmet cam. He didn't like the fact that he only saw his guages when he looked briefly down while riding.

Re: Anyone own one of these camera mounts?

Discounts... OK, take $5 off when you buy through ebay. When you get to the screen with the total, there is a place below it where you can put a discount amount, put -5. That will take care of it.

There are some videos on my web site too. They were submitted from people that bought my camera mounts. If you end up buying one and want your video posted, just email it to me through the email address on my web site and I will post it.

FYI your choice of encoder and format do not work on a Mac. Just thought you might want to know to avoid losing potential business.

WMVs play fine on a MAC. Just get Media Player from microsoft.com.

Go it but it does not play all codecs i.e. his All I get is sound. Just trying to be helpful to him, by suggesting a codec change or he use avi (Quicktime plays them direct no download needed if you use standard codec)

Thanks for the info. I will reencode the High Quality (50MB) video with Quicktime and post it as well. I hadn't realized wmv9 wasn't supported by Mac yet. It is a pretty new codec.
