Advice on Camcorder

I just picked up a camera mount for my bike which means I may be in the market for a previously owned camcorder (will be using my friends Sony for now, not digital)

Any recommendations as to what brand, format and features I need to look for? Looking for something decent maybe a couple of years old.

I have a digital Canon. Happy with video quality, cheaper than Sony.
Don't worry about the still picture feature (low quality out anyway).
Do go digital since it is easier to computer edit the footage.
When looking at zoom look only at the optical zoom value.
Sony, Canons and I think JVC have a LANC connector that allows remote control and VCR sync, a nice feature.

Pay the extra $$$ for the extended warranty, I have never seen a bike mounted camera outlive the warranty...

Sony MiniDV here. Love it! Combine it with Pinnacle Studio software - make your own movies with easy editing, music, titles, fades, etc. Super easy and great finished product that you can burn to DVD, CD, MPEG, streaming video, etc.
