| Re: Radar Detector I use a Valentine 1 maounted on the 929 mount that the linked company sells. It mounts to the front brake master cylinder. I have mine on a longer bolt than supplier sends and mounted between two rubber washers with appropriately sized washers.
It doesn't bounce around as much as it did without the rubber washers and rotates nicely from over the key and back.
I also use the V1 audio and heads up adapters.

| Re: Radar Detector Ok guys, I got my R.D. today, and the end of the power cord looks like a phone cord! How am I going to hard wire the bike? Do I have to buy their $40 cord or can one be made? Thanks |

| Re: Radar Detector My solution/suggestion for wiring up the V1:
- using a multimeter (M), find a switched + cable in the wiring harness (I used the main front harness underneath the right front cowl), then find a nice ground wire
- plug the V1 cord into the cig lighter, and using a M, figure out which wire is +, which - (I think it's the red and green)
- using a length of phone cord, cut it, and splice one end into the harness (+,-)
- get a F-F adapter (lets you run two cords together), and plug the now-powered telephone cord into it
- find a nice place to put the adapter (I put mine just to the right of the front tank bolts, under the tank, after wrapping it with some rubber hose to snug it in there)
- connect the V1 into the adapter, presto, it's wired in and is easily removed |

| Phones = umm, something like 50V
...but it's the amperage that you would normally worry about anyways, but not in this case - a standard telephone cord is enough. |

| Re: Radar Detector No problem. Careful with the wiring, take your time, use good 3M electrical tape, use zip ties to keep the wiring from coming apart over time, and have some fuses handy. |

| Re: Radar Detector If you got a V1, it should come with a hard wire kit. I just hardwired mine to the battery, so it used the Valentine phone cord and is fused. Ran it up the right side of the bike and bundled the excess wire under the right 'ram air' cover thingy. Standard phone cord will work for power, but not between the unit and external volume box, if your planning on using headphones. |

| Re: Radar Detector I've bot a Bel 990 international radar detector and was wondering if any of you guys have got one to work on a bike?
Getting the power is fine, just wondering if you know of any accessories you can get for it so that the buttons and display/ speaker are remote?
I don't particularly want to chop it up to wire my own buttons and speaker up to it as I use it in the car as well.
thanks
Ben. |

Seriously, you need to build up some street cred' before you push off a product on us. What you think nobody would notice? It's right there next to your name, 2 posts. And a click on your name shows nothing in your bio.
But if I'm wrong, my bad.... |

| Re: Radar Detector No worries, I know what you're saying about building street cred'. I currently ride a R6 and am thinking about getting a CBR, and I was lurking through different forums and came across this one. I was just going through the pages and pages of threads in the Electronics part and came across this thread. I got excited because the TPX is my favorite mod this season and thought I had to share my thoughts. That's all. I'm pushing it because I like it. I'm in the process of looking for a new pair of track suit and I might plug it if I find a pair that I like.
Yeah, looking back, it does look like I'm a borderline spammer! I'll try to remember to be active on this forum so I don't look like one! |

| Re: Radar Detector I just bought a cobra 9690 and plan on using a suction cup mount on the gas tank. I got one of those universal GPS mounts from radio shack that have a flexible gooseneck that will let me do a little s thing so that the radar points forward. Anyone tried the gas tank suction cup thing? Do they pop off after a while? |

Here in Latvia they mostly use laser.. Is this TPX bad ? track multiple targets at once ? is this something needed ? Does anybody have any experience with this TPX.. Is it worth buying ? I need something good for lasers.. |

| Re: Old post, new trix... I like the V1 - and use it in my cars and my other CBR. The secondary display is small and right in my line of vision... mostly. I have been ticketed with this setup, because I wasn't paying any attention and don't have any sort of audible warning. (and don't want any, really) In this install on my 08, I made the little bracket and attached it using the LH side mirror acorn nuts. Oh, but I only used the crappy little strap until I found a better hold down scenario. Now I just use a small bungee for easy on / off. |

DO NOT rely on performance claims made by manufacturers or businesses who sell those products, obviously, because they have a vested interest. They want sales. You're not going to see anything critical in their advertising copy of the products they're trying to sell you . It's fine to use the specifications and tech data from those sources, but take their claims about product performance with a grain of salt. Get that from people who have actually USED the products.
Having said all that, I can tell you that the TPX actually IS inferior to the top performing radar detectors on the market. I bought one with the hope that it would at least be an average performer. I also thought the "purpose-built" design was a reasonably good idea, and I liked that it is waterproof. The problem is that its sensitivity is very poor, as is its rejection of non-threat signals. I had it installed on a Chevy V-8 powered Boss Hoss bike, and the thing would actually false from the bike's ignition under acceleration - not a great time for false alerts. All in all, it's not a good choice compared to the competition. I put mine in the trash a few days ago, and ordered another Valentine1, which is what I should have done in the first place.
