| gsp/power commander combo idea Being the electronics junkie i am, I just cant help but think of a good reason why this cant be done. Lets say you have a power commander like device in the tail and a gps device on the steering dampener. A few modifications should let you set up a communications link between the two devices. GPS software could send new fuel maps to the p/c on demand. The GPS could also be configured to give you real time stats and let you know how your maps are working. I have yet to pull the trigger on buying either the GPS or p/c but I would defiantly be game for a rig like this.

| Re: gsp/power commander combo idea GPS is just for location, it has nothing to do with actual communications. |

| Re: gsp/power commander combo idea I beg to differ, there are plenty of gps units that are multifunction. There are units that have mp3/satellite/fm/traffic radio players, internal bluetooth capabilities, voice recognition software, basic serial port functions and the list goes on and on. The trickiest part would be the embedded software on the gps itself (damn proprietary laws). |

| Re: gsp/power commander combo idea The power commander does not have any kind of wireless communication ability. |

| Re: gsp/power commander combo idea Good point Dynojettech, thats why in my original post I stated using a "power commander like device". A wireless link would make the install a breeze, but I fear a good old serial data link would be more reliable.

| Re: gsp/power commander combo idea There is also the possibility of using the LCD of the multifunction gps receiver/street mapper/mp3 player/device all in one plastic housing as a rear camera monitor. |

| Re: gsp/power commander combo idea You can do this sort of thing with a Palm - there was a setup to read obdii (the car equivalent) info to a palm and display info.
I guess now you probably better off with something like an iPhone/iTouch.
I guess the point lanbrown was making was you are using the gps feature - just the display/controls. |

Try a Palm device and then add GPS to it. http://www.powercommander.com/palmmanual.shtml

So rather than trying to reinvent the wheel, use the one that is already made. |
