ECM question Does the ECM on a 954 have a safety map if it thinks there's something wrong with a sensor or the engine, and if so, does it reset if you turn the ignition off and on again?

Re: ECM question To reset an ECM on most vehicles you have to unhook the battery for about 10 mins. This will usually get the vehicle to start properly again, but if there is something wrong with a sensor then it will trip it again in a about a minute or so again.

Re: ECM question Is there a light illuminated on the instrument cluster? If not, then the ECU would not be in any type of limp home mode.

Re: ECM question Nah, no lights on. only thing that made me think it might be in limp mode is low power output on a dyno and I have been messing about with the map sensor tying to find an electrical fault that is now sorted. I unplugged the sensor and ran it. It ran ok, but I think if the ECM gets a reading from a sensor that is outside it's range the ECM just gives it a default value to keep it running. This did show up on the MIL and after reconnecting it I cleared the fault code from the memory.

Re: ECM question You really can't compare numbers from one bike to the next unless they are run on the same day and with the same operator. An operator can skew the numbers.

Re: ECM question yeah, but that considered, 122hp from a 954 aint the best. I was just looking for an easy fix

Re: ECM question It depends on the dyno make, some read much higher than others. A Factory Pro will always read lower numbers than a DynoJet. You can easily see a 10 to 15HP difference between the two with the same bike.

Re: ECM question Yeah, true. My mates RC51 (we call SP1) gave 118hp on the same dyno, but, again, different day!

Re: ECM question An RC51 can produce 120 to 130HP. If your buddy has one at the upper end on another dyno, then that dyno reads 12HP down, take your 122 and you would have 134HP; which is in-line for that bike.

Re: ECM question Your bike read low, as did his. The dyno reads low, not a big issue. Why not ask the shop what other 954's ran?

Re: ECM question 118HP for an SP1 is really good. The 954's had at least 15HP up on the RC's. And if your 954 and your friend SP1 ran on the same dyno, the you do have a problem. Didn't we cover this in another thread?

Re: ECM question Yeah, we did. I just thought I might get a better response to an ECM question in the electronics forum. As you are frequented with the other thread 'high on oil, low on power', I dropped 300 mL of oil and it does seem quicker, but no dyno...
