97' 900rr speedo is whack!!!

Sup guys, my speedo started goin crazy last week, very unpredictable, today my RPM gauge stopped workin, and I noticed my head lights flickerin, Checked the battery and I,m down to 1/2 juice, "battery is brand new" Should I take it apart and try to find a faulty wire? or sensor? or just buy a new or aftermarket one? if so, where to find a aftermarket one? thks JC

Re: 97' 900rr speedo is whack!!!

hi,check your regulator/rectifier. crazy stuff happens when they go wrong,if not, check the stator/generator. it may not be charging properly if you only got half charge.headlights flickering sounds like a loose connection somewhere though, you dont mean dimming do you? if the battery is over 18 months old it may need a new one if you dont use the bike regularly. hope this helps. they are all reasonably cheap fixes, just time consuming.

First step is to check ALL of your wiring VERY thoroughly. Fix all the bad grounds you will find and the burned up connectors. Then check it all thoroughly again and fix all the problems you missed the first time around.

Re: 97' 900rr speedo is whack!!!

thks, DO you mean the wirse behind the gauges? is there other places I should check? I did unscrew the gauge, had to wires that the plasitc had rubbed off on one side of them, fixed that, and then check all the connections, didn't see any other loose wires, or some looked burnt. ??? they all looked kinda old. but seemed to be tight and secure, I've had a problem with my battery draining, possible my r/r hav a new one coming in next week, ANy other suggestions are welcome and appreciated.
