| 954 gearbox problem Can anyone help?I have an 03 CBR 954RR which is jumping out of 4th gear.A local dealer has said that the bike has been thrashed(redlined in every gear)and wheelied for miles while changing gear which has caused severe damage to the gearbox and say it will cost ME £1500-2000 to fix as it is not covered under the warranty!!!!!!! The bike has only done 5700 miles from new.I am an average rider and don`t see how this is possible on a race bred machine.Has anyone else experienced this problem or Honda warrenty problems. Please help as i am now without my toy!!!! |

Does this mean you or others did what the dealer described? Or is he full of ****(e)? If the bike wasn't mistreated in this way by your "average rider" treatment, I'd fight it.
But if the bike was 'wheelied for miles', oil starvation is a distinct possibility. |

| Re: 954 gearbox problem How would the dealer know that it was "thrashed, redlined, and wheelied for miles"? Even if he tore the tranny down he could only assume that. Improper shifting can cause problems, but it's usually with second gear, especially if the bike has been stunted. Is the bike still under warranty? If so, I'd find another dealer or fight this one.
Good luck...let us know what happens.

| Re: 954 gearbox problem THis is interesting as my 01 929 started falling out of 4th--that lasted about a year--then it started falling out of 2-5th---I ahve the extended warranty---they said that unless its a manufacturing defect they wouldnt fix it under the warranty---but with this many occurances, I believe we have a bonified design flaw---I havent done squat to the 929---still trying to figure it out |

cbrrocket6 unless you've already admitted that you've done that or the dealer can somehow prove it has been abused I would think that it would be covered by warranty. But I am not a lawyer. Have you tried taking it to another dealer? |

| Re: 954 gearbox problem thanks to everyone for the replies to my box problem.Honda uk are still saying "it`s not a manufacturing fault"so basically they are telling me to p**s off!!! I have since located a box with 1200 mls on the clock and got the dealers to fit it and now its better than new but they "did me a deal" on labour charges but my bill inc.the box, gaskets, oil, and the rest of the **** that goes with it has cost me £ 750.00(ish).but the main saving grace is that i still have 5 months Honda warranty left if i ever run out of arse wipes again!!!!!!!!!
Thanks to everyone for their help/concern! |
