Swiss Speeding Fines

Saw this on another site today. Not sure of its veracity. Watch out on those pan-European transits!

"Beware of speeding in Switzerland--there's a massive increase in fines for 2005, for example on the Autobahn:

85 mph (136 kph) used to cost £53 (CHF 120) now it will cost £530 (CHF 1120)

88 mph (141 kph) used to cost £353 (CHF 800), now it will cost £795 (CHF 1800

103 mph (166kph) will cost 20% of your net income (minimum CHF 10,000 - £4,417) plus 3 days in jail."

Re: Swiss Speeding Fines

All speeding over 20 kph will be fined depending on your net income here in Finland. I got 410 Eur for 123@100 kph. The national (and propably world) record is 170,000 Eur for 80@40, the guy who got that is obviously quite wealthy.

I guess their autobahn isn't the same as Germany's autoban. 20% of income is crazy money. I suppose you buy a vehicle that can't go over the speed limit.

I would like to go to England and maybe Rome one day but with stuff like this you home and New Zealand are much higher on the list.

MOUHAHAHAHAHA... Hoax...

The truth:

Inside a city (after deduction of 6 km/h):
+1 -> +5 km/h: CHF 40.-
+6 -> +10 km/h: CHF 120.-
+11 -> +15 km/h: CHF 250.-
+16 -> +20 km/h: CHF 400.-
+21 -> +25 km/h: CHF 600.-
+25 -> +30 km/h: CHF 800.- (hey, that means 50+30+6 = 86 km/h !!)

Outside the cities (after deduction of 6 km/h):
+1 -> +5 km/h: CHF 40.-
+6 -> +10 km/h: CHF 100.- (GBP 40.- ??)
+11 -> +15 km/h: CHF 160.-
+16 -> +20 km/h: CHF 240.-
+21 -> +25 km/h: CHF 400.-
+25 -> +30 km/h: CHF 600.-
+31 -> +35 km/h: CHF 800.- (hey, that means 80+36+6 = 122 km/h !!)

On the highways (after deduction of 6 km/h):
+1 -> +5 km/h: CHF 20.-
+6 -> +10 km/h: CHF 60.-
+11 -> +15 km/h: CHF 120.-
+16 -> +20 km/h: CHF 180.-
+21 -> +25 km/h: CHF 260.-
+25 -> +30 km/h: CHF 400.-
+31 -> +35 km/h: CHF 600.-
+36 -> +40 km/h: CHF 800.- (hey, that means 120+40+6 = 166 km/h !!)

More detail here: http://www.motards.ch/main.php?page=...ars/tarifs.php

Just be careful around the biggest cities and you will avoid 90% of the highway speed cameras : Zurich, Basel, Lausanne, Bern and Geneva.

And for the urban legend of Germany: don't dream, it's over. All the limitless highway pieces are slightly changed to a 120 km/h.

so now instead of going as fast as you want you are limited to 120kmh (which is 74.5mph) and you said thats "slightly" changed.

That's not true. Germany's autobahns have a recommended speed limit of 130 km/h. This means that you can go as fast as you want (with the exception of posted speed limit areas like construction areas and close to large cities like Frankfurt, Cologne, Berlin, etc). If you are involved in an accident above 130 km/h it's more likely to be considered at fault. If it is determined that the fault was the other driver, you will still be ticketed for excessive speed.

There are a few areas where it's been determined that the speed limit is fixed lower than 130 km/h but there aren't many.

Well, as I travel from Basel to Frankfurt quite a lot (and sometimes to Hannover), there are less than the 1/4 which remain as "unlimited" (and the most are Frankfurt and Hannover, to be accurate). And to be honest, with the traffic density, it's more difficult to push to 280 km/h unless you're wanting to end as a truck suppository

Re: Swiss Speeding Fines

I have a friend working there at the moment. He got done for about 15k's over in a residential zone a few years ago. He said the fine was pretty nasty, but a few days after the fine he got sent an official warning about speeding, which they charged him hundreds of dollars extra for ( I think he said something like $4-500 AUD)... Bonus!
