| UK insurance Hi,
Anyone know where I can get a realistic insurance policy for a big bike in london? I cannot believe the quotes I've had- the latest gem was £10,027. for a £3000 98 R1 with an immobiliser and datatagged! and that was TPFT only!!
Granted I have no garage or bike NCB in UK (moved from Aust ) but I do also have a clean licence, no accidents am a relatively experienced rider (6yrs+) and am approaching 30yo. Are there any companies that aren't tw@ts about the whole thing??
Its making me want to just not get insurance and take the risk, certainy cheaper, but wrong, I have been without a bike for too long, I'm going mental without one!
Cheers
Ben. |

| Re: UK insurance Must confess I stuck with " motorcycle direct" who even knowing I'm a born again biker came in very low at £375 full comp, which is damn good for a new rider on a missle with wheels
That was £70 lower than anyone else, just in case you're looking |

| Re: UK insurance Erm sorry if im a bit late, but try Go compare car insurance quotes and cheap UK motor insurance policies at Gocompare.com. They search most of the insurers and give you the cheapest ones they can find.
Its better than confused.com... Im with Motorcycle Direct - found through go compare.
Get your bike alarmed and in storage over night, it reduced my insurance quite a bit. |

| Re: UK insurance Dude, this is exactly why i dont have a bike right now. The insurance price is unaffordable esp if you plan to use a full m/c license from another country.
I did have a Aprilia 125 and had insurance with Carol Nash who gave me the best rate for that bike, but for any 600 class it literally burnt a hole in my wallet.
Besides my one year period just went past, so I really need to get a local license which I hear is a long drawn process and very very expensive
Good luck!!! |

Good luck!!! | Well the long process depends on how old you are, you can go and do direct access (500cc+) or you may have to do the two parts.
You will most probably have to do a CBT and Theroy Test before hand. |

| Re: UK insurance Well im with Motorcycle Direct too.
They are the cheapest for me as well.
And they take you seriously, with what bikes you want to insure.
--------------------------------------
However I wanted to buy a Yamaha FZR1000 Exup Genesis, a really old one! and as we know old bikes whatever cc are cheap to insure!
Oh and i wanted a multi-bike policy.
So I rang MCE, bike insurance. (thats not a typo or an abrieviation thats the name of the company)
ME: HI do you do multi-bike policies?
MCE BLOKE: How old are you?
ME: "I'm 19,
MCE BLOKE: OH WE DONT DO MULTI BIKE POLICIES FOR YOUR AGE, - what the Fu*k.
ME: OH
MCE BLOKE: What bikes did you want to insure?
ME: a honda cb400, and a yamaha fzr1000
MCE BLOKE: he just laughed and said;
"I dont think so mate"
and put the phone down!
WHAT A TOTAL BUNCH OF "Cee yoU Next Tuesday" 'S.
and last year they didn't send me the correct proof of no claims, they sent me 1 year, I had 2!
but I sorted that out with a rather angry argument with the customer service manager.

I would be inclined to ring them up and speak to his manager or customer services and complain.
I need a multi bike policy, i want to be insured to ride any bike but only one at a time if you get what i mean, i dont know if motorcycle direct do it - might ring them up.
Im pushing onto 49 (young i know ) and still riding a 954RR.
Ps: Got my panels back from the spray job, it was meant to be black with silver flake but has turned out slightly blue. Anyway, it looks yummy in the sun. (Panels for my Honda Hornet Cb900F-5) Will get pictures as i put it back together...

and for young riders.
but i think you need to start your policy again. - it maybe best to wait untill you are ready to re-insure again. |

Last year i had the VFR, the Fireblade and my GPZ500 Taxed and Mot'd, but sent the tax back on the VFR and the GPZ as it was too much hassle having to change insurance over etc.
Will look into it soon.

| Re: UK insurance OK, all these posts about Europe are gettn to me. WTF is going on over there with the price of stuff!? I thought stuff was expensive in the US in my area but geezus! almost $20,000 for insurance!? What are you riding a damn F-18 fighter jet? When I was in my early 20s I bought a V-MAX for 6 grand and one place wanted 8 thousand bucks for insurance. I visited Italy a few years back and the beauty of the country and the women (wow every girl I saw was tall in shape and beautiful) amazed me. I would love to live there but geez it sounds like the cost of stuff would make me a homeless person. |
