| European (Alps) Tour Was thinking of hopping the pond, renting a bike and riding the Alps. Anyone in the area interested in showing me the good roads?
I have been to the Alps (Switzerland, France, and Austria) to snowboard, but would loove to ride those switchbacks on a bike.
Any insight?
Thanks,
Kerry |

Tell me what you are looking for and I tell you what you need to know. | How much were the bikes?
How long did you have the bikes?
Did you need a special license?
Insurance type?
Where'd your ride?
Stay?
Anything you can tell me to help smooth this out would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Might give you some ideas, it lists different types of bikes. It's an organised tour so it might not be what you want but you can get some idea of pricing and other info. Hope it helps. |

6) Stay? | 1) Check question2.
2) I owned the bike since I lived there. However, check this link. This should get you started... Motorcycle Rental in Munich, Germany with AdMo-Tours - BMW, Harley Davidson, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki
3) You need your US license in connection with an international DL. You get one at your local AAA.
4) You don't have to much choice there. Usually the rental place dictates that.
5) I get back to you on this one. I am putting together some rides that you might be interested in. Some places and mountains would be Salzburg, Gross Glockner, Bozen, Meran, Gardersee, Lago Maggiore, maybe Innsbruck, ...
6) Home, which also happens to be a B&B in the middle of the Alps.
So, I would say you fly to Munich. Rent a bike there. Choose from the rides I submit soon, add a coule extra days in Munich to really test German beer and fly back home.
Maybe you should also think about things you want to see. Does the misses like Swarovsky crystals? Do you guys like to swim in a nice clean lake in the afternoon? Do you want to buy great leather jackets cheap in Italy?

Trust me, I have tested lots of beers in Austria, Switzerland and France - travelled overseas many times to go snowboarding over there; love the Alps!
I wouldn't be able to do this trip until next summer, thinking the June time frame. Would you be up for being a guide? My buddies and I would pay for your room and gas. I'd just rather hang out with a local person that a commercial guide so I get more out of the trip.
If you'd like to see some of my boarding trips hit my site, -= www.skurz.com =-
I'll will check out you home town.
Keep the info coming!
Thanks,
Kerry |

| Re: European (Alps) Tour Let me clarify - Summer 2009?
I am in contact with a friend from back home. He helps me to put together some ideas since he knows the current road conditions, etc. It might take a couple days. |

| Re: European (Alps) Tour The hard expenses will be the bike rentals and the flights. Who knows what the plane tickets will go for in a year considering the oil prices.
Then there is the expensive Euro which makes food and lodging expensive. However, B&Bs are all over Austria, Germany, and Italy and cheap places are found in a hurry. Maybe even a couple days in tents are an option.
Who knows. It's to early to think about variables that might change drastically in a year. |

| Re: European (Alps) Tour I agree. I am fine with hard costs, just hoping t oget a ball park idea of the soft cost.
I like the idea of the B&B, get more feel for the area that way. Are most places cool with bikes? |

| Re: European (Alps) Tour The only thing that bums me out is that I won't be able to ride my own bike. I don't like the idea of shipping it somewhere, and I am sure it cost a fortune. It'll still be a blast. |

| Re: European (Alps) Tour Here is one day trip:
Let's say the starting point is Zell am See.
From Zell to Mittersill, from Mittersill to Lienz. From Lienz to Heiligenblut. From there up the Gross Glockner. And back down to Zell.
Great panorama, lots of turns!! |
