| UK Riders - IHIE Guidelines For Motorcycling Website I came across this, this afternoon.. And thought it was informative Quote:
Not many countries take motorcycles into account when designing roads and highways. We're usually an afterthought, something people will say "ooops, we need to do something about those pesky bikes".
But that's not in every country. Although many motorcycle riders in the UK will disagree, the UK-based Institute of Highway Incorporated Engineers, the people who look after the engineers who design the roads, are motorcycle conscientious. So much so, that they even have a website that focusses on the motorcycle.
The website is called IHIE Guidelines for Motorcycling Website, and it details specific items like road & winter maintenance, road works, parking, practical design issues and traffic calming. All this in terms for motorcycles.
Their site also has many different statistics and information regarding motorcycles; usage stats, types of motorcycles, accidents, etc.
Surfing through their website is interesting. You can see what these people need to take into account when designing a new stretch of road, or make a roundabout.
