| UK - 50mph limit for rural roads Saw this in Motorcycle news - I guess this means a camera at each end of the road and start and arrival times compared to give and average speed. Looks like we'll all be stopping for an awful lot of sandwiches in the future!

The speed limit on single carriageway rural roads is to be cut from 60mph to 50mph under government plans announced yesterday.
The lower limit is to be enforced by a new generation of average-speed cameras capable of catching motorcycles. It could be imposed by next year.
Roads ministe r Jim Fitzpatrick said the move was needed to cut the death rate on rural roads, where seven out of 10 car crash fatalities occurred in 2007.
The 50mph limit will be proposed in a consultation to be published this summer.

Imagine - revenue from every road in the country - they'll have all those Billions lent to banks paid off in six months!!! |

I guess they like the money too much

| Re: UK - 50mph limit for rural roads If they set this up on every rural road they will be broke in no time - the equipment is expensive.
Most likely they will set it up on a bunch of popular roads. |

Trust me, here in the UK they make a shed-load of money from camera's.
Only the Lord knows what they do with it all. |

All these sources of revenue can be used to fund new schemes such as the new and improved, all seeing, average speed camera's!
England is suffering from a huge dose of over legislation and general nanny state-ness. |
