another question -- bodywork

Hey all, another question about a bike I haven't bought yet:huh: planning to pick up a 2000 RC51 with 29,000 kms on it this weekend for a good price in Canadian pesos. Needs some work but primarily cosmetics -- mechanically it is sound. Plan to do the usual mods over the winter (had Ducatis before this, so honda stuff should be relatively easy). Needs bodywork -- all of the stock stuff is either cracked, scrached, or just looks poor. Heard OK reviews regarding the auctmarts stuff on another forum. Has anyone tried this stuff yet?

RC51 RC 51 RVT 2001 2006 STREET FAIRINGS SET #30:eBay Motors (item 120486157187 end time Nov-27-09 07:55:52 PST) (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/RC51-RC-51-RVT-2001-2006-STREET-FAIRINGS-SET-30_W0QQitemZ120486157187QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item1c0d88db83)

I like the idea of somewhat cheaper fairings that I can get painted myself, and that are in the USA, rather than China. Like everything, you get what you pay for, but these seem to be a fair deal.... anyone?

will these FMF exhausts work

On my 2000 I plan to buy? Purchasing a 2000 SP1 next weekend... needs some cosmetics, as well as exhaust. Rogue has little good to say about the jardine 2-1 system, and these FMF ones on eBay seem to be a good deal. Will they work on a 2000? Seems that a lot of other 2000 and 2001 parts are interchangable...

Drainig the Fuel tank??

I discovered a leak in the feul tank of my SP1 last week so yesterday i removed the tank frm the bike.

Doing that i thought all the fuel would drain out but there is still quite a bit left in there.

I need to drain it all out so i can treat the tank. What is the best way to drain the fuel out??

And what have people used to stop the common leak on the SP1 tanks as i dont know what treatment to buy or wheter i should have it welded

Thanks

My little brother was going to sell his beloved RC back to the insurance company for $500. I thought that was too good to pass up.

So now i'm the owner of a wrecked RC. it's an '01 and was in great mechanical shape.

He told me all the skins are gone and the front clip, but other than that...it's cool.

Where to begin?

Anyone familiar with these? I'm wondering what people think abotu them - Good? Bad? I bid on one on eBay, didn't meet the reserve, but now the guy is offering to sell it to me at the lower price anyway. It includes the "required fairing stay as part of the auction wich you absolutely MUST have otherwise it will not fit with the stock one".

Any additional info is appreciated!

Thanks guys!

Issues after Mods

I just got done reassembling my SP2 after doing the flapper valve mod, soft rev mod, pair removal mod, losing a tooth in my front sprocket, and slapping on some flush-mount turn signals. The bike sounds, runs, and looks alot better, but I now have two new issues.

Issue #1:

My clutch is now EXTREMELY spongy. I'm not sure if I stretched it while doing the PAIR mod, or if it just needs to be adjusted. Does anyone have any suggestions? It there a simple adjustment that I can do to compensate?

Issue #2:

The turnsignal light on my dash is on all the time. The turn signals themselves work. They are single filament bulbs with a positive and negative wire coming out of them. I cut the connectors off of the stock signals, combined the positive and ground and connected it to the positive on the signal and then connected both negatives. Like I sais, everything 'works' (running lights and turn signals) but the light on my dash is always on. Should I switch the the ground to the negative side? Should I 'ground the ground'?

Any and all help is appreciated!

Thanks!

SP-2 against a Ducati 998S

I am new to this forum, so a quick introduction. Work and live in Shanghai, China for the last 10 years.
Crazy about bikes, both maintaining as well as riding.
Fell in love with V-2's and don't want anything else any more (well......a MV Agusta might change my mind on that).

Small problem, basically bikes over 125 cc are not allowed, although it seems to start opening up a bit.
Still got several big bikes in the garage, used for road and track riding.

After 3 years I just sold my 1996 Fireblade, as well as considering to sell my GSX-R 750 track bike.

From that, I am considering to buy either a second Ducati 998S (I already have a 998S Bayliss Replica) or a 200(?)SP-2.
Buying the second Ducati allows me to have a Duc for the road and a Duc for the track, buying the SP-2 will bring me an other V-2 legend which I never rode so far.

Then now coming to the point:
Is there anyone who can advise on a 998 against a SP-2 in way of riding, (lack of) comfort, reliability issues, track use (short and curved as well as long fast tracks) and do-it-yourself maintenance.

Any kind of experience or any other advise is welcome.

There is a bike pretty local to me that is for sale. It's not pristine in any way, but it does have some thing on it that I want. Would anyone be interested in parting a bike out with me? We can see who needs what and divide the price up. It might just be fun to all get together and rip a bike apart haha!

here is the ad (http://pennstate.craigslist.org/mcy/1452191789.html)

I'm interested in the filters, PCIII, SS lines, undertail, and possibly the fairings, tank and sprocket/chain.

So basically does anyone need a swingarm, frame, ecu, shock, forks, rims, wiring, console, windscreen, seat, underframe, sets, etc.

Let me know if anyone is interested in going in on this with me.

Someone thought it would be a fun haloween prank to knock over my bike in the wee hours of Sunday morning.

I was leaving the house around 9am Sunday when I seen it. My minty clean RC on its right side. Just laying over right where it usually rests on its side stand. I quickly hurried over to assess the damage. Minimal, yet painful. Minor scuffs to the following: mirror, bar end, signal lamp, clutch cover, mid-pipe, brake pedal, and foot peg. The inner fairing that supports the marker lamp was broken. a small puddle of fuel, but no damage to the tank or plastics.

I got home around 1 am the night before and all was well.

The insurance claims officer asks, " do you suspect anyone?" I quickly responded, "suspect?" "If I knew who did this, there would be street justice, ha ha ha."
She laughed. Good news is, because its a comprehensive claim, it doesnt affect my premiums.
It could have been worse.
