A little background on the bike and parts. I bought the bike brand new in March 2000, put 15,000 miles on it until I crashed it in Turn 2 at Thunderhill in June 2002. We slid fine (~ 100 mph lowside) until we got to the end of the pavement, then sky, ground, sky, ground.... Insurance covered it (yes, State Farm, and yes, I told them it was a trackday...) and I bought it back for a track bike. I disassembled the bike within a couple of weeks after the crash, and bagged and tagged all the small parts. Engine: Fast forward to spring 2005. I finally got off my ass to rebuild it. I tore down the engine, thoroughly cleaned it and replaced the lower case, since the original one was damaged in the crash. New lower journal bearing halves were used to compensate for minute differences from the old case to the new, and the clearances were checked and double checked with plastigage, per the manual procedure, to be within spec. The engine was put back together with all fasteners torqued and lubed per the manual, in order to get the frame over to The Frame Man for inspection. The engine rebuild included a brand new head gasket and a brand new generator cover. The valve inspection was also completed at this time, and all valves are within spec. The engine was reassembled with the starter, throttle bodies, spark plugs, and coils. It needs only an oil filter prior to refill. It is currently packed in foam in a crate awaiting shipment to its new home. The lower fairing attachments to the oil pan broke off in the crash. I'm sure new ones can be tacked on.... Frame, Forks, Steering Stem, Front Wheel, Swing Arm, Brake Rotors, Axels: The Frame Man inspected the frame, swingarm, forks (upper and lower), steering stem and trees (crown and lower), rims and rotors (front and back), subframe, and axles. It's this repair estimate to put everything back to specification that blew my budget.... (The Frame Man is local to Sacramento and has been around for many years prior to Computrack and others coming on line. I have even asked Dan Kyle about these guys, and he recommended them.) - Frame: Has a twist to it and the bottom of the headstock is stretched slightly fore to aft, but it is repairable to spec, and they were going to blueprint it, too.
- Forks: One upper leg was slightly bent (repaired to spec). The other, and both lower legs, were in spec. The straightened fork was disassembled for straightening of the upper and the folks at The Frame Man did not put oil back into the fork. Upon careful inspection of the instructions, I realized that I do not have a slide hammer tool for driving the oil seal into place. Therefore, the one fork is minus oil and will require reassembly. I may be overly worried about the reassembly, but having never done forks before, I would go carefully by the manual and I'd really hate to get it partially reassembled, then have to wait for a tool....
- Swingarm: Slight twist, it is repairable.
- Lower tree: In spec, this is a new one I bought off ebay a couple of years ago.
- Front wheel: Slight lip dent, repaired to spec.
- Rear wheel: Have a fresh 954 wheel that is good. Mine was toast....
- Front rotors: In spec.
- Rear rotor: In spec.
- Front axle: In spec.
- Rear axle: Slight runout, just out of spec.
Penske Shock: The shock is a Penske double-clicker with about 5000 miles on it. It could use a seal rebuild and a new adjuster collar to be perfect. The adjuster design and tool left a lot to be desired at the far reaches of the preload settings, so the tool would slip and stretched the holes a bit.
The preload adjuster rod for the shock sucks. However, an adjustable pin spanner wrench or a small strap wrench, with a 1/2" wide rubber strap, works great. Gas Tank: The one for sale is red with black from a 2001 bike. I picked it up on eBay and it's in great condition, but doesn't have a cap or fuel pump. I still have the crushed tank from my bike with the fuel pump that worked following the accident. I can throw that in if needed. Dash: I am sure that one of the mounting holes is broken. It should be a reasonably easy fix. Front Brake Pads: The pads were new for the trackday at which I crashed.... Plastics: These are garbage for the most part and are going in the trash.... If you want them badly, I'll send them for the price of shipping and handling (buying the box).
That's the nitty gritty on the bike and it's parts. There are plenty of parts that I have forgotten to list, so if you're looking for something specific, please ask. Please send purchase requests or offers via PM. I will take these on a first-come, first-served basis. One final note: I do work full time doing things other than selling my bike. I will do my best to answer all messages in a timely manner, but I can't always guarantee my immediate access to a computer. Please be patient.
Thank you for your time!

| Re: FS--Parting Out 2000 CBR929 I bought a totaled bike off my buddy to rebuild for stunts...the only problem is he lost the key. My first question is...Will the ignition off your bike work on a 99 900rr? if so how much do you want for the ignition w/key and the gas tank lid to match and the trunk lock...with shipping to 45154...Much appreciated. Thanks |

Thanks | I really have no idea if the ignition will work on a 900RR. The 929 was pretty much a ground up new bike, not just an evolution of the 900. If you find out that it'll work, let me know and we can work something out. |

I do still have the triple clamps. At this point, the front wheel is spoken for and there are a few waiting in the wings ahead of you. I will take a look at the clipons, evaluate their condition and let you know. |
