I would suggest contacting Verizon, about this and report this to federal authorities since this involves interstate commerce and telecommunications fraud. If they know something is coming doen the pike they may keep logs of the mac adresses of the machines using that gateway adress a little longer than normal but you'll have to move fast.
Blocking that IP prevents anyone in that area of the country that is a member of fireblades from getting to the .org that's just the public IP of the ISP that he was posting from his machine IP would be behind that and is private non public adressable IP in all likely hood, hopefully he did this from home and not from a college campus etc... otherwise odds are slim of catching him.

With any luck he used his home internet connection that's easy to follow, Most DHCP systems reassign the same IP to your home router every time it renews the lease, if you have VoIP telephone service then your router IP remains fixed. My IP adress at home remains fixed because I pay extra since I want my mainframe available to me via the internet.
It could also be leased to a university or cofffee house/internet cafe, in which case things get more difficult but not impossible. Every packet contains the mac address of the machine it was sent from. |

| Re: 954 front end and other parts fs plus f4i yea thats bullcrap. i didnt realize that they wouldn't refund you if the seller didn't have applicable funds in his account. doesn't that take away from their whole protection promise? no guy committing fraud is going to leave a dime in his paypal account. i am going to call and make a complaint on all of your behalves, and I will make sure to talk to a manager and let them know how their system is seeming to be a complete failer. I've given them thousands upon thousands of dollars, and this is rediculous. I'll let you guys know what they say. |

Paypal is a joke. I was under the same inpression. That they would pay you the money owed, and take action on the other person. What's the point in paypal if there not liable for your lost? |

| Re: 954 front end and other parts fs plus f4i yeah, they guarantee the funds if it's an Ebay auction... not if it's any other transaction. cause Ebay own's paypal, that's why.
I called and told them VERY early on that we were getting had by a scammer and they said, "well, we have to go through our process by law" ok, that's fine, i just got $100 stolen from me douches. |

| Re: 954 front end and other parts fs plus f4i At this point it isn't really even about the lost funds or paying for something I never received. I want to know why it is that PayPal wont reimburse us. Whoever this guy is would have to have gone through the same process as the rest of us to open his PayPal account right? That means that they would have had to communicate with him and verify all of his information. How is it possible then, that they now cannot get in touch with him or go after him for the money. They should have way more contact info on him than any of us do. |

well to reply, i've never sold anything on Ebay. and mostly on my own local boards. So i didn't have feedback anywhere. I was new to the site with only a couple posts when i posted up that i had a corbin seat for sale. I'm not a scammer and I like to think i handled my transaction well, but i guess i'm still too naive.
and yes, it will be a hard thing to do paypal again, i agree. |

| Re: 954 front end and other parts fs plus f4i How I handle online transactions on forums
If the seller recently became a member, view that they are there to take your money from you. If they joined that day or within the last month and one of the first things they are doing is trying to sell something, they are probably just trying to get your money. If they have been an active contributor and they have over 100 posts, then they are more likely to come through. If the posts were just “+1” and “bumps” then I would stay away.
When paying, even PayPal will not back your money unless you bought it off of eBay and the seller has been verified. If you use a Credit Card, the CC company may come back to you and say you must follow the PayPal rules. If you are in good standing with them and they want to keep your business, then they will reverse the charge and let PayPal take the hit. This means that if PayPal wants the money, they will need to get it from the seller; they now have a vested interest. The US Postal Service offers Money Orders. ( USPS - Domestic Money Orders) See if the seller will take those. If they do, then you need to mail them the MO and now you have a physical address. You would have gotten that anyway as most shipping companies require one on the package. If they don’t deliver the good, then you contact the USPS and they will handle it. The person now has committed fraud and more importantly, mail fraud. Since you had to mail it, you have a legit address and USPS can track them that way; even a P.O. Box.
If they are posting the same items on multiple forums or using images from eBay, then stay away as well.
The short version, look at when they joined, how many posts they have done and what the posts entailed.
You can still get taken, but you can minimize it by using a little common sense. |
