| Point of no return?? Mileage wise Hey guys...just wanted to throw this out there. What do you think is the "point of no return" on mileage for a bike for re-sale?
OK...I have seen a few bikes for sale on here recently..and all of the bikes are UNDER 10K miles...even the 2000 and 2001 929s...so are these people lying? or is there a magical number that makes your bike un-sellable? I have had my 2001 929 for 3.5 years. I bought it in Nov 2000. I just clicked over 17K miles. I was telling my friends and they were like you better disconnect it or not ride it cuz once I hit 20K miles I will never be able to sell it.
I dont plan on selling my bike anytime soon...at the soonest I am thinking I will wait for the 2005 1000RR but...I am just saying I ride the bike only on weekends and 17K miles for 3.5 years is pretty good isnt it? When I hit 20K will the bike be even more worthless?? |

| Re: Point of no return?? Mileage wise Yeah 20k, it's tough. I sold my 929 with right under 20k for this reason. I wouldn't advise it, but you could buy a speedo with listed lower miles than what you have. I wouldn't worry about it, business wise, most bikes aren't good investments at any mileage. Ride it, have fun, and sell it when you are ready. |

Besides, I once bought an FZ750 with 30,000 on it. Ran like a watch the year that I had it. |

| Re: Point of no return?? Mileage wise I'll be crossing over 20K on my 02 954 on my commute home today. Of course I'm not selling it, so it doesn't really matter. I figure I'll ride it until dies, then rebuild it and stick it on the track and buy a CBR 1K. |

| Re: Point of no return?? Mileage wise you guys are funny...
Yeah so I guess it is true...20K is the death mark.
well..yeah I think I will keep my baby for a bit longer. I have the pink slip, still owe about $3500 on it on a credit card...so its still worth it to me to keep it. But I just wanted to see if all the mileage talk was true...I guess it is.
Thanks again folks for the wisdom. |

| Re: Point of no return?? Mileage wise I bought my first bike, a '92 CBR600F2, with 24K on the clock, in 1998. I sold it in 2000, sitting next to the 929, for more than I paid for it. It had 46K on the clock at that point.
The point is that there is a plateau for resale prices that depends more on the age of the bike than the mileage. Just my $.02. |

| Re: Point of no return?? Mileage wise So what's my 929 worth now? It's never been down and runs like a top. The only blemishes are rock chips. Mileage is 48k and rising rapidly. Do you think I could even find a buyer for it? It's not actually for sale, this is only a curiosity question. |

Chris | Chris if you don't mind, let me know what your selling price was - mine's got 30k miles on it - and it's been down - a couple of times. |

| Re: Point of no return?? Mileage wise well i just spent TWO months on the online cylce trader trying to buy a 929 and they are impossible to find. sure there listed on there but as soon as i called about it i was always told the same thing, sorry i already sold it. also there are alot of good deals that are scams, they wanted me to send half the money now and they would ship it, yeah right. finally i looked online for everyday for about two months and i called about one as soon as it listed. 929 erion edition for 5500 with 21000 miles on it and let me tell you i called and told him i would take it. a week later he told me i could easily get a thousand more for it and that he had already gotten over 100 calls. if you do find one in the trader its already sold, believe me i know i spent two months trying to get this one bike a 929, the only bike i've wanted since i seen them new at the dealership. list it for 6000 and it will be gone in a week, I PROMISE YOU........ |

| Re: Point of no return?? Mileage wise oh yeah, i have all of the service records that has ever been done to this bike and all from a honda dealership. even my friends tell me this bike looks brand new. i couldn't be happier with it. i even drove four hours one way just to pick it up. here is everything about it: 2001 erion racing edition 929, has frame sliders, a full ti erion racing exhaust, new pirelli diable corsa tires, k&n air filter, and flush mount blinkers and i could tell this guy loved his bike. hell he spent an hour just going over everything i needed to know about it. original owner and the only reason he was selling was because he just ordered a honda 1000rr from lake hill where i live in corinth, ms. i would've paid 6000 no problem, trust me if you wanna sell now is the time. by the way, my last bike i put 12,000 miles a year on it. if you think 17,000 is too many miles just leave the bike parked in the garage for a few years like your friends seem to be doing...............
