| How do you keep your avatars from looking low res? I can't seem to get mine to look like anything but crap. Some of you have these what seem like much higher res pics in your avatar. How do you do it? I use Microsoft Photo Editor and just resize my pic to 150x150 and that's about as big as I can get it. Any suggestions?

| Re: How do you keep your avatars from looking low res? Depends on the image editing software most of the time... Also, if you're saving it as JPG make sure the compression level isn't really high. |

Hmmm...I am limited on editing software unfortunately. I did try playing with the compression levels a little but it didn't make much of a difference. The limiting factor is the 150x150 pixels. If I set the quality low and then resize to 150x150 it comes out worse than if the quality is high and I resize to 150x150. Oh well. It's not THAT big of a deal. Thanks Conq.

| Re: How do you keep your avatars from looking low res? Attach the full size version of the image you are trying to resize. Then, when viewing the message, Right-Click the Thumbnail that the site creates, choose Save Picture As. (Attachment Thumbnails are set to 150x150 here for a reason. ) |

AHA!!!!! Thanks! Pretty complicated to get a stupid avatar though. Probably won't change it for a while.

I only squared it off so the size would reduce to below 25KB. Thanks. |

It's not even a true application as it only launches when you click on a picture. |

| Re: How do you keep your avatars from looking low res? When re-sizing the picture in your photo editor, there should be an option to keep size contraints. Then, whichever side is larger (length or width) I change that to 150 and it resizes the other to fit nicely....

| Post the pic and I'll do it for you :) Hiya
Apart from the resolution you can play with the colours and the sharpness of the image.
You need an app. like Photoshop to do these, but if you post your image here I can try to do it for you.
Cheers

Cheers | Thanks. I got it using Conq's method. I wanted the whole pic in there. I only clipped it to fit the size constraints and still try to be somewhat sharp.
