| I'm screwed.... ...I want to take my race bike out of the US to Canada, and I need to declare it to the US Customs on the way out. So I send the bill of sale to the customs office, and the guy called me and said this is not enough documentation. I need a title, so I tell him that this bike does not have a title because it is a JUNKED bike. Then he said, you need a certified letter from the DOT where it was titled to state is JUNKED. So I contact the WI DOT, and they tell me that the VIN number I gave them does not exist in their records. So then I call the Salvage company, to find out which state this bike was titled, and all they can find out is that the bike was bought at a WI auction, and that the bike was originally insured with State Farm in WI. So I call a State farm agent in WI to see if they can confirm the VIN and if indeed this bike was titled in WI. All I can give them is the VIN, and they said that is not enough info, they need the policy number or name.
So, now I am back to the title of this topic...I am SCREWED!!!
Does anyone know where I can find out where a bike was originally titled?? |

I was also thinking of contacting American Honda, I would think they should know where they send all the bikes by the VIN, right?
And the other problem is that I need this by Monday next week!! |

| Re: I'm screwed.... no one used the words 'patriot act' or 'homeland security' in any of these conversations did they? How obnoxious...I can say that in many states (in close relevance to mine ) you can sell an 'off-road' vehicle with a bill of sale and no title, but fill a title req. form and get it titled based on that b.o.s. as long as its gotta vin.
The downside to this is that although it would be titled, you'd have to wait forever for the dang paperwork from just about any RMV ya deal with.
But on a sidenote, have you headed to Ca. via vermont? |

Why don't I just leave it here in TN, and if any members want to ride the gap, but don't want to risk their street bike, they can use this one...is has DK front forks, PCIIIR, Scotts...it will be just like all the street bikes... |

| Re: I'm screwed.... well, in the past there have been places to cross the boarder that are nothing more then a lonly back road from VT to CA. Nothing, not even a sign. But, I hear they are cracking down on that nowadays with all the crazy things that have happend (or could happen). They have a main boarder crossing at the top of I91, and thats going to be the "example" location for the USA on how they want to have a boarder crossing. I guess they are beefing the heck out of it in the up and coming years.
All, and all, I'd go legal...then you don't ever have to worry. Get it cleaned up with a dealer or American Honda.
