954 Info needed please.

Hia All, Ive just joined as im looking to buy a 954 and have a couple of questions.

First the obvious one, are there any issues i should be looking for.
What models have the 16 inch wheel.
some replace it with a 17 inch for a better tyre choice but is there any other advantage in doing that
Is Tyre choice a big issue.

Thanks

Are you in USA or UK, as you probably know slight differences with set-up

Other than the usual used bike issues (chain, sprockets, battery, tires, brakepads, valve adjustments, potentially low compression due to high mileage and/or lack of proper maintenance), the 954s are needing stators, voltage regulators/rectifiers, relays, and the HTEV servo motors have a tendency to malfunction/fail. These are not specifically design flaws, just that 954s are now 15 years old, and may require the aforementioned bits to be replaced.

Oh... and they all come with 17" rims.

Re: 954 Info needed please.

Like the Musketeer? As Unslow said, they came with 17's so you'll find tire choice is unlimited. I will add to the fore mentioned list that lots of members experience fuel pressure regulator failures also. I have been very lucky, mine has 37k on it and I have not had any charging system issues of a bad FP reg, knock on wood, I know my turn is coming. It has always been garage kept, well cared for, and lived in a very dry climate. All things that have probably helped, except for the summer riding heat which can't be helping the stator or reg/rec. I'll sell you mine for $9000 (Sorry, little joke from another thread). Let us know how the search goes.

Make sure you do your research (and coming here was a great idea). You've already gotten great advice.

Just to be clear. The from the 929 and up (including 954, 1000RR), there were no carbs. Liter CBR's were/are fuel injected.

Along the same lines, all 17" wheels from 929 and after.

Make sure you're after a true 954, and not a carbed 99 or older blade that been made a 945, by adding larger pistons. See how that small number change can be a huge factor? 945's were a common mod back in the day, and got a bit confusing when the 954 came along. Anyhoo good luck, and let us know what you get.

Re: 954 Info needed please.

One more thing for now anyway.
Has anyone fitted bar raisers to one and if so can it be done without having to butcher the fairing or stretch the wiring?

Your registrations are different across the pond. The VIN will let us know exactly what you have. I'm certain you're after a legit 954, I added my comment because you mentioned carbs and 16" wheels. Those ended production in 1999 on the RRX. A 954 (to confuse us all even more), is still considered a 900RR according to Honda. So if you have fuel injection, upside down forks, a 17"" front wheel, and a "pivotless frame", you have a 954.

Fitting had risers on the 954 or 929, from what I've heard, does foul the fairing. Look online for manufactures claims on those.

And finally, post some pictures when you receive said Blade

Re: 954 Info needed please.

Concerning "risers" on the 954, it wil be difficult finding clipons that're taller than the OEM ones. Aftermarket risers are measured from 0", not the difference from factory. OEM clipons are already at 2" to 2.25" over 0.
