When I first saw him, he was in movement in the dirt turn out. I got off the gas, and covered the brakes, thinking that he would stop when he saw me approaching and not pull into the road. He never looked, never stopped his roll and proceeded into the roadway.
I hit the brakes hard, thinking I would be able to stop in time. However, the reason why he was making u-turn was because he had just passed the driveway he was looking for. So, when a car usually pulls out in front of you, they usually accelerate, he didn't as the road was about 50 feet from where he made the turn. I hit the brakes even harder, no place to go on the right as he swung wide to make the turn. I was not going to let myself smack into the back of the truck so at the last second I decided to go around him on the left, the other lane, as I saw there was no traffic coming.
Just as I decided to make this maneuver, I see the left turn indicator start to blink, and as I crossed over the painted line, the rear locked up. Damn, I was doing such a great job of not locking the rear before this. He turned into me, knocking the bike out from under me and sending me up over his hood and on to the ground in front of him. Ironically, blocking his path up the driveway he was trying to get to.
I was wearing blue jeans, no holes or visible marks. An AGV sport mesh jacket, which did not even get a scratch. My new Icon Super Duty boots which took most of the hit on the toe and front side. The Icon Barrier gloves which also didn't have a scratch. Other than I'm got some aches and pains and my thumb seems to be sprained.
The bike has mostly cosmetic damage and I was able to make it home as is. I'm taking it down to the local Honda shop on Tuesday to get the repairs underway.
Nearly 6 years and 51,000+ miles and the poor thing has to deal with this. It's just not fair after so many years and so many miles with no problems, the bike has to go through all this.
