| 2,200 miles; 44 hours; on a supersport I used to think Frank was a stunna-loving punk, but I have to admit that Motorcyclist lost a good one when he recently left for life as editor of another publication. http://www.superstreetbike.com/12oc..._0307_12oclock/
Anyway, the following article about his 2,200 mile/44 hour stint on a supersport is one of the most entertaining, irreverant examples of moto-journalism I've seen. http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/features/cross0404/
Hey, did you catch the flak he got from the Iron Butt Association in the letters section of this month's print-copy issue of MC? Boy are they howling and, frankly, they've turned me off just a little bit to the idea of a certified SS1K. I don't know if I need someone else vouching for my integrity... |

I read that article a while back, forget which month it was in. Way cool article... |

| Re: 2,200 miles; 44 hours; on a supersport They've got their panties all in a bunch about his admission to riding while tired, drinking Red Bull (they frown on stimulants of any sort), a few power wheelies and exceeding the speed limit. -sigh- |

| Re: 2,200 miles; 44 hours; on a supersport OH, and here's the best part - they decertified him from their ranks and decertified the ride as well. Sheese. |

| Re: 2,200 miles; 44 hours; on a supersport I actually enjoyed that piece so much that I went back and read it a second time when I first got that edition.
There's some really funny stuff in there. I especially loved the part about the "brief but dynamic" exchange of hand signals that he had with a few truckers.
Excellent article. |

| Re: 2,200 miles; 44 hours; on a supersport I just re-read it again, for my third time! Something funnier every time through.
I forgot how hard I laughed at this one... "Waco, Nebraska. 5:15 p.m., May 13. 1593.1 miles
Two sure signs you've entered the Great Midwest: bad roads and bad cops."
C'mon dude, we ain't all that bad.

| Re: 2,200 miles; 44 hours; on a supersport Gosh that was hilarious. Too bad the IBA got upset. The last IBA report I wrote had to be rewritten because I mentioned my speed. How lame. This guys report is how an IBA ride really goes. |

| Re: 2,200 miles; 44 hours; on a supersport I met Aaron Frank a few times at track days in the Midwest. I even own his Honda Motorcycles book. He pitted with us and told us some good stories at Road America. He was testing some stuff for the magazine. He's a real nice guy. |

| Re: 2,200 miles; 44 hours; on a supersport 2225 miles in 46 hours, August, 1990 on an 89 Hurricane CBR600. Fowlerville, Michigan to Glendora, California for my parents 50th wedding anniversary.
It was supposed to be a 5 day leisurely trip, but my biggest client lost 6 servers from a stupid Novell patch that wasn't tested (on "large" servers) before release and their admin applied it without doing any homework.
My wife and daughter had flown out and were "patiently" waiting for me to arrive before the 3:00 PM startup for the celebration (we were renewing our vows at the ceremony and my presence wasn't optional). With that motivation, I numbed myself to the task, sans Widder vest and other creature comforts. I never stopped for more than 30 minutes and actually ran out of gas about 20 miles south of Las Vegas as I was well into the hallucination point of the trip and forgot I had left the petcock on reserve when I fueled up before leaving Utah. A nice gentleman on a full dress Harley stopped and we found an old pop can by the side of the freeway and drained about 10 ounces of gas from his bike and I was on my way. I remember pulling in for gas somewhere on the west side of the rockies heading into the desert at 4:00 AM and seeing a thermometer that read 18 degrees (F). I had been averaging 120 on the straight sections, and spent the next 4 hours trying to guess the "feels like" temp.
I never thought of documenting this trip and nearly passed out at the Anniversary party, but I made it with 45 minutes to spare . . . |
