Re-packing a slip on?????

I removed the jardine "bolt-on" from my 954 today so i could give it a thorough polishing.I noticed the round "baffle" structure inside was slightly loose.I believe this is the result of burned out packing, although it doesn't seem overly loud.My question is will burned out packing cause the air/fuel mixture to be lean? Since it is a "bolt on" i haven't changed my fuel injection.I don't want to damage my motor.Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I doubt you'll hurt anything with the bike in its current state, but you might want to attend to that can.

Re: Re-packing a slip on?????

You might be able to drill and use a steel rivit or a tack weld if there is something broken inside

I have taken apart a Jardine Slip-on from my 929 when i had it.. The Glass wrapping in the pipe may add some stabilty to the race baffle but its more for vibration. If you drill out the rivots and pull off the end cap you will see that the Baffle actually slides into the end cap... You might of had a weak weld in the baffle and thats why its loose.. Its a pain in the ass and i would just leave it unless its making an excessive rattling noise..
