| ARRRRRRRRHHHHHH!!!!!!!! I f^&king pissed off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just got hit on the way into the office about 15 minutes ago. It was only low speed while I was lane splitting up to the lights but this BITCH in a silver car opened her door as I came up beside here (I think she did it intentionally). The lights changed and I took off ahead of her to get through the intersection, found a safe place to stop to assest the damage and get her details but she didn't stop!!!!! By this stage I had taken my eye off her for a few seconds and once I realised she hadn't stopped and had seen the damage (indicator stalk is bent back (should be able to reattach this), and the left fairing has two vertical cracks in it about 8 cm long which go down from the indicator stalk), I jumped back on the bike to track her down and get her license etc.
Unforunately at the time there was about 5 silver cars there driving in a row and I selected the wrong one to follow. So she has got away with it. Damn it!! If I had of had a cooler head she would have been paying for it BIG time!!!!!
Arrrrrrhhhhh What a sh$t start to a week!!
Anyone got any ideas the best way to fix this without paying huge amounts of $ and hopefully avoiding an insurance claim now that I don't have any details about the other party. |

| Re: ARRRRRRRRHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hate to say it, but lane splitting is illegal in Melb (and Sydney) as far as I know - thus, catching her would have not succeeded in much more than oyu paying for her bills (if any) and possibly a fine from a cop if one did attend the scene. It sucks, but thems the rules, and that is how you must play the game. You can get yourself a soldering iron and try welding the cracks up (from the inside) and this may help improve the look of the crack to be almost unnoticeable.
Sorry to hear about it :

Actually there is no law against it in Melb http://www.mraa.org.au/index.php?opt...age&Sub Menu=
I was riding on the righthand side of her to the left of the white line and was at low speed so I was doing all the right things so there would only be fault on her behalf of opening a door while in traffic.
Below are the pics of the damage, not the reason I wanted to point my new digital camera at my Baby for the first time. Sucks alot!!! |

I'm sure some aftermarket blinkers would be a cheap fix for this though. 20-40 bucks depending on what u want. |

Shouldn't cost too much.
As Z said, just get a soldering iron and some cable ties and weld the inside of the fairing. Aftermarket indicators $15 each |

Aftermarket indicators $15 each | Yer SouLJahz and Zop sounds like you have a good idea, its the second time the stalks have got in the way. If I had Flush mounts rather than the stalks then my fairing would probably not be cracked becuase they wouldn't have been caught on the door.
I've got the name of a good Plastic Welder off a mate, so I'll see what the cost will be other wise I'll try doing it myself. I'll also look into sourcing some flush mounts, time to do a Search on the .org me thinks.
I was never really in danger, I was only doing about 15-20 km/h and was slowing down due to the tight squeese because of the red tray back ute in the lane on my right. So I was already under brakes and had my feet off the pegs at the time (probably what stopped any other damage as well becuase I stopped alot faster and caught the bike sooner) due the the decreasing gap. She was stationary and had been for well before I got there. |

| Re: ARRRRRRRRHHHHHH!!!!!!!! Sorry to hear about it mate. I hope it wasn't intentional by the driver. I know we all lanesplit, but yeh, gotta watch out for it. A real bugger when it happens. I've had a few close calls but am usually ok.
Check the wreckers for replacement fairings, see what you can find, of you can get it plastic welded etc. It might work out better getting the complete unit anyway, after you factor in the espensive decal that has to be bought again, and the spray paint etc etc.
See how you go! Good luck. |

See how you go! Good luck. | I'd be surpised if the wreckers had a 04 left fairing. I'm hoping that it can just be joined with some plastic welding from the back without the need to get the decal and painting. What's my chances? |

I was moving pretty slow, maybe about 15km/h, but luckily I was also under breaks, due to a red trayback ute being well over on the left of his lane which was just about to squeese alot of room away on my right. I had also taken my feet off the pegs just before she opened the door due to the tight squeese just past her car, So I was able to jam on the breaks hard and fast and my legs were already down pretty much. I tilted a faction but unfortunately my indicator stalk was bent back enough to snap the plastics.
So it was a combination of reasonable management and a touch of luck that the gap was temporarily going to squeese in a bit just after her car, which stopped it from being any worse.
In actual fact its a good arguement to make sure you warm up your bike properly, I took off when it was about 40 degrees before my usual warm up temp of 50 celcius. If I had of warmed the bike up then I wouldnt have been anywhere near her and my plastics would still be prestine. But then there could have been worse consquences along that other timeline.
No major damage, just expensive damage and no-one but me to pay for it. |

Like when theres a tragedy everybody blames themselves and retraces there steps "if only I hadnt gone to lunch with them, maybe theyd still be here..etc..etc" things just happen!
Ps. Sorry about your bike dude
