| New bike purchase???? I am thinking about purchasing a new bike. Well, I guess you can call it a bike. Does anyone here own a scooter?
I am about to move into my new house. It is located about three miles away from work. I spoke to a co-worker who owns one and he uses it to commute every day. The Honda Metropolitan gets 100 miles to the gallon. The tank holds a gallon of gas. That computes to filling up the tank every 3 and a half weeks. With the price of gas these days, topping off the tank would cost me $1.90. Performance of the Metro is not stellar, but what would you expect from a 49cc scooter. The top speed is 42mph and weighs only 180lbs.
The down side would be the humiliation factor riding it on the road. It is a BIG step back from my other bike(954). All of the people who are laughing at me as they pass can kiss my .
My wife is no fan of motorcycles. She still does not accept the my CBR. I was very hesitant of the conversation about purchasing the scooter. To my surprise, she thought it was a good idea.
So what do you think???? Flame away……. I cna take it. |

| Re: New bike purchase???? I'd get a Ruckus if I was going the scooter route. Though I'm not sure if the Ruckus is as capiable as the metro (top speed and so on). Aprillia makes some nice looking scooters, or the yamaha Zuma is a good one.

But, like you, if I couldn't park the bike where I could see it at all times, I wouldn't ride it to work either. |

But, like you, if I couldn't park the bike where I could see it at all times, I wouldn't ride it to work either. | Sounds like you are asking me to do math to explain my logic. Sorry, I have not gone that far. In actually, I am just looking for an excuse to get a new toy. The place where I am moving to has shopping, schools, and dining in the community. In reality, you will never have to leave the place. That was another reason to get the scooter. The grocery store is a quarter mile away.
As far as riding the 954 to work, the parking lot is very far away and I am not able to see it. Even if I had one of those auditable alarms, I would not be able to hear it or be able to get to the bike in time to see it drive off. This is a gamble I am not willing to take. |

| Re: New bike purchase???? I've seen some Silver Wings tooling around on the Interstate lately. Looks weird because the drivers aren't wearing gear except for a helmet. They seem to be moving right along.
Storage space or a rack to hold things would be a bonus on your new scoot.
I say go for it! |

I think scooters are cool. Get one with storage capacity. Slap some Ohlins and Dynojet stickers on there and send us a pic! |

Both cars are Hondas(accord, civic). Since another child is on the way, an Oddessy is in my future. I test drove one last week. I also found out that Honda is about to release the 2005 version next month. The motor is completely redesigned.
Can you tell I am a Honda Fan? |
