| Talk me out of it.... Super Motard Ok,
While looking for a replacement RC51, I keep glancing at Supermotos. Looks like a hoot, low cc's mean low rates, Id do it right and make it titled and street legal. The downsides I see are that I dont think I could do a full day ride on it because of the lack of seat, the squid factor would be calling my name, Id probably get arrested for jumping random things out of the blue.
Honestly, I cant see having one as an only bike, but the little red devil side of my concience keeps prodding me with that pitchfork.
So if I were to go through with it and build one, what bike to use. I really like the CRF450, though Id like an electric start, so where does that leave me?

Chris | After putting some mileage on the KLR and getting fairly friendly with it's on and off road abilities, I took out the YZ on the road today for a bit (I had to, see your paragraph above for "why" part). But it was all closed course blah blah...
Anyways, either stop looking now or cash up Its a freaking hoot. If you want to buy a ready to run already legal/legit/titled and reg-d WR450 I can help you, friend of mine still has his for sale Well you said you wanted E-start right?
My advice is don't test ride one until you're ready to buy it. Im getting my YZ dirty next weekend so I don't have the ambition to clean it again. Cause every time I clean it I think what a great SM bike it would make with some nice black talons on there |

| Re: Talk me out of it.... Super Motard Thats the thing.... I want to RIDE one.... Like through the twisties some. Acctually the WR is one of the ones that I have noticed with an electric start. Like I said, Ill probably wait and get one as a second bike. Maybe by then Honda will have the CRF450X with the electric start.

| Re: Talk me out of it.... Super Motard Yeah, I remember that from my off road days. I cant see riding one down the interstate more than a few miles, and I cant see doing much distance on a seat that is 2/5th the size of my large postieror.

| Re: Talk me out of it.... Super Motard I knew a guy who got a supermoto as his only bike after his bike got all messed up. After a few months he sold it for another streetbike.
He loved the supermoto (said it was the most fun bike ever) but he missed the everyday riding on a normal streetbike |

| Re: Talk me out of it.... Super Motard I will not talk you out of it. I am in the process of getting one myself. As far as which bike to get...CRF450R all the way. I have ridden a YZ250F in motard trim and the CRF450R in motard trim. The 450 is the ****!!! The guy that owns it has it geared pretty well as his top end is around 105mph, so if you think you can't get speed out of it your fooling yourself. The 450 is like my 954 in 1st and 2nd gear, just roll on the throttle and you have yourself a unicycle. I have NEVER had that much fun on a 2 wheeled motorized vehicle. I highly reccommend you try one, you won't stop smiling till you get off the thing, and even then it won't be for a while. I rode the 450 for a few hours and found it to be rather comfy even though the seat is so small, I guess all that mtn bike riding I do gets you used to a thinly padded seat. Electric start would be nice but once you get used to it you can kick the 450 over with one kick. Keep your eyes open for a used 450 as the 05 is coming out and many guys are getting rid of their old ones for it. You can find smoking deals if you look into it. I have a few I'm looking at right now for good money and are in great shape. Good luck and keep me posted on what you do man.

I have been trying to buy one of those damn 450's for like 2yrs now but when the time came that I could have easily dont it, I couldnt see myself having only a motard and my RS50...no streetbike wouldnt work for me, for stupid reasons but whatever. So depending on your lifestyle you really gotta consider that, that was the biggest thing for my decision. My

| Re: Talk me out of it.... Super Motard All I'll say is that multi function anything is NEVER as good as a purposely built anything. At first it will be a hoot, but as an only bike, it'll probably see more and more garage time until the day it goes up for sale.
Forgot to add:

Umm, no. Get one, they're a hoot, like an oversize, street-legal 50
My Duke should be up and running within a month, finally |

| Re: Talk me out of it.... Super Motard Since I don't have a streeter anymore....I've been thinking the same for a streeter. I would think interstate travel would be easier on a tard than any sportbike???
What about the out of the box tards....KTM???? ...not the duke..the SMCs.

Although they come with four speeds the topend is at least equal to that of the CRF450. Since all the trannies are compatible between the different models (SX, MXC, EXC) the extra two gears from the six speed tranny will swap right in as will the e-start and battery. |

Speaking of which.. what are people generally running for motards. I'm not gonna race this thing just buzz around town on it when I get the itch. What I want is a spare set of 'motard' wheels so I can slap-on the dirts when my buddy down the street can escape long enouth to hit the trails.
What are Black Talons? Edumacate me!!!!! |

Black Talons you say....you have 2 possibilities.
1. Black Talon hubs inside your choice of wheel Excel, Morad, etc...
OR
2. Ammunition designed to go through Kevlar vests and such. Hope you stocked up on some cause it's VERY hard to get a hold of now a days.

| Re: Talk me out of it.... Super Motard My buddy has a ktm 525EXC and loves it... He uses it for both dirt and super moto... He left the dirt suspension on it as he races hare scrambles, but says the thing still handles incredible... He is a very responsbile rider on his zx11, but turns into a total hooligan when on the super moto... Jumping over things, front tire in air more often than on ground, terrorizing bicycle paths, etc.... His will easily do 100+ mph, but it vibrates so bad at highway speeds that he doesn't ride it for any great distances...
