| Deer Wreck Video Video of a guy hitting a deer. He ended up with numerous broken bones but is supposed to be ok. The guy shooting the video went into shock on the ride home and plowed head on into a car at 80 KM per hour. He ended up all right too, but his new Gix750 was totaled. Video

Wasnt it Warchild that split a deer in half and rode away? |

If you're gonna hit something, it's better to hit as slowly as possible. Therefore, if you cannot change path to avoid it, slow down as fast as possible. I think he probably did the right thing, I submit the fact that he survived as possible proof.
BTW, this is my biggest cycling fear. It doesn't help that I live in a state with too many deer. I can see and predict "stupid" drivers, but the deer are unpredictable. If cars came shooting out of the trees straight across the road I'd feel the same way about them. I had to brake once today already b/c deer were 5 feet from the asphalt in mid-day. |

| Re: Deer Wreck Video A few weeks ago there was a deer/cadillac collision on our local interstate. The driver's side roof caught the deer mid-rift causing the top half to shoot across the roof and truck while the back half went through the windshield and sorta blew up inside the car. It looked like a big red-paint bomb exploded in there and covered practicallly every inch of the caddy's interior! Noone was hurt (miracle) but they were a mess! |

Wasnt it Warchild that split a deer in half and rode away? | Not sure if anyone else had the pleasure of t-boning a deer but I did that 11 months ago and rode away (only far enough to pull over)
I cant say if the outcome would have been better but I know I didnt have time to hit the brakes so I busted out my death grip and held on, that deer was a lot smaller than the one I hit also, when I came around the corner it was just standing there about the same height as I was sitting on my bike, so different situations.
What a dumb idea it was to read this thread, even dumber to watch the video...such horrible memories. |

| Re: Deer Wreck Video Lots of deer up here too, and a big concern of mine as I ride for sure. I've seen several, but always when I was at fairly moderate speed with time to react. I hope it stays that way! |

I think that riding the machine through the deer might leave you better than launching airborne, hitting asphalt, tumbling and rolling on the ground to a stop. |

| Re: Deer Wreck Video That was really scary. He did not have any time to avoid it. The deer was only about the size of a big dog. So hitting a dog of the same size would have the same results. You are not safe anywhere. |

| Re: Deer Wreck Video One of my close friends hit a cow at night about 10 days ago and is in intensive care. Here is a short clip from the newspaper about it.
Motorcyclist hurt
A man suffered major injuries Sunday night when his motorcycle hit a cow outside of Turlock, the California Highway Patrol reported. The accident, reported just after 8:30 p.m. on Linwood Avenue east of Central Avenue, closed the road for at least an hour as investigators examined the scene. The impact broke the motorcycle into several pieces and killed the cow. The man, who had not been identified, was flown to a hospital.
He has a broken left collar bone, broken left shoulder, shattered left elbow, broke most of his ribs, collapsed his left lung and had emergency heart surgery upon arriving by mediflight. he is still in and out of concussness, either from the drugs they have him on or head injury...when i went to see him, his mother asked if that if he could hear me to lift his hand, and i saw his fingers curl a bit.. its prettyheartbreaking to see something like that with someone you know. really good guy too. |
