Ugh... three fatalities around the Gap over the weekend

"SEPTEMBER 26: BULLETIN -- 2 DEAD ON FOOTHILLS PARKWAY -- A husband and wife riding a Goldwing were killed when a minivan swerved into their lane and hit them head-on about 3 pm. Several occupants in the van were injured. The accident is under investigation according to the National Park Service. Two hours later a Harley rider on the Dragon ran off the road near Swift Corner and was airlifted to UT Medical Center. Rider suffered a broken hip.

SEPTEMBER 25: BULLETIN -- TRAGEDY ON THE CHEROHALA -- Robyn McCrone, a friend of many riders in the area including Nancy and I and Ken Wheeler, was killed in a motorcycle vs car accident on the Cherohala Skyway in the early afternoon. Another motrocycle also hit the car and rider is in serious condition. The accident occurred near the 17 mile marker on the Tennessee side. One cycle hit the driver's side and the other cycle hit the passenger side. No charges have been filed according to Tennessee Highway Patrol. Robyn, a frequent rider with us at Sportbike Track Time, was from Ft. Lauderdale Florida and was riding with her husband Mark."

Wow and I was planning on going there Saturday or Sunday but didn't because of a headache. Condolences to the friends and family.

Terrible news, I saw this on the TOD site earlier and wondered if maybe Robyn McCrone had been a member of the .org. They have a picture of her at Jennings on a 954.

Nope, your punkass hasn't called me to go on a ride since July 5th

Seeeee.. I done called yo azz uh... er.. well... last time we were gonna go riding up Windy (crap.. I guess it was a long time ago). Been freaking buzy getting the photo company rollin and teaching the wife how to ride.

I guess there were a few fatals up on Windy this year too.... we had a dude go down yesterday thankfully the he and the bike were ridable. Man.. bad freaking year for riders... Damn near added myself to the tally had the rear fishing into a blind uphill hairpin that took out my buddy last year on his Blade. Damn things can go to shiznit fast...

I was just wondering because I saw a Reb/Black blade go zipping up the hill. Gotta get you out there before you bail on WA.

I guess I need to go buy a kayak, trade my Honda in for a Subaru, drive real slow everywhere, get a membership at Star****s, and talk about how beautiful it is here when it rains for 9 straight months
Go Seahawks

Or move here and ride the Dragon. As bad as the news was there is an intense amount of bikes that ride it and it is a psycho road. Also if you read it the fatalities were not in the dragon. The Cherohala is a fantastic nearby road (1 death, one injury, poor explanation) and the foothills parkway (2 deaths at the hands of a van) is at the bottom of the TN side. The accident on the Dragon was a broken hip when a harley hit the bank it sounds like.

I will stay clear for a while but it is a definite ride if you get the chance.

Re: Ugh... three fatalities around the Gap over the weekend

A friend of mine was riding the area that day. He ran into both of the roadblocks that were working the 2 wrecks. He saw the Helicopter airlifting the Hardley rider, and on the Foothills he was stopped and had to wait for about 45 minutes. The cop told him what had happened to the couple on the Goldwing and then the cop told him a firetruck was there hosing off the road so it must have been very bad. That sucks! When they allowed him through he saw where the firemen hosed the road but didnt see any bloodstains.

The hose was probably due to gas spill and or chemicals from the van. Hopefully the riders did not suffer.
