Shock Service

I am thinking about buying a Penske shock for my bike. DOing some research, I was reading through their service manual and they recommend a one year or 30 hour of track time service interval. Service consists of changing seals and oil etc. Costs about $90 for Penske to do it. I then went and looked at Ohlins and their rec is for I think it was 30,000 km...

Anyone have a Penske or can comment on the need for shock service? The bike is dual street/track.

Re: Shock Service

I had a penske 8987 on my RC. I had traxxion go through it and service it. Made a difference to me for sure.

I seriously doubt an Ohlins can do that long on the street without a least a fluid change...

Re: Shock Service

I guess an annual service for the shock isn't that big a deal. considering the longest I have owned a bike is less than two years....

I never realized they had to be rebuilt so often. Wonder how many people buy the ohlins or other aftermarket stuff and dont rebuild them for yrs

An excellent question. I hadn't really thought about it but was perusing the manual and came accross that... 30 hrs of track time doesn't seem like a heck of alot considering the stock shock goes for years before getting maintained if ever...

Re: Shock Service

The stock shock on my 929 has now covered 33000 km's/ two summers of mostly road and some track riding and I can feel that it is due for replacement..It sure doesn't do things like it used to anymore. I didn't believe that a stock shock would wear that fast, but now that I have experienced it myself I know..

I'm trying to save up for an Öhlins and a fork job this winter...
