If so, that would make the top speed considerably lower due to aerodynamic drag. |

yeah they said that was at a garage that offered to dyno his bike to prove the cops wrong... the bike maxed at 159.77 with like you say no drag.... the only thing the kid had done was slip ons.. you heard in the news before a highly modified honda cbr 1000 , then it turns out to be a much closer to stock rc-51 .... but hey thats what makes it fun , with the very accurate stop watch , and the eye of the trained cop .... at that speed a 1/16 of a second means many mph. difference. poor guy, at least he made the news in a different light than like killing someone while stunting in a school zone... |

| Re: interview with 205mph tilley That might be the speed it hits redline. Possibly because of slightly lower aftermarket gearing. |

| Re: interview with 205mph tilley As much of a pig as the RC is, I would think it has a higher top speed than 159mph. Even the 600RR has been clocked at 165 in top speed tests.... |

| Re: interview with 205mph tilley I think with the talk of aerodymanic drag no one factored in the ram air of the RC. I don't think it'll add as much speed as the drag takes away but it might help.

| Re: interview with 205mph tilley Its also in RoadRacing World. They should that the gearing need to go 205 with the stock 9500 rev limiter doesn't exist. They said at the rev limiter the bike can't pull past 165 with its gearing.

| Re: interview with 205mph tilley The problem with admitting that the bike can do ~160 is that the judge can then charge you at that speed. At least it happens all the time in Ontario. I've personally almost been convicted of speeding because I said at the time "I was passing a car at about 120km/h." The prosecution then asked if I wanted to plea bargain by accepting that charge of that speed. I opted to proceed with a trial, and the prosecution right away said they did not have sufficient evidence to continue w/ the trial, so I got off free.
Anyway, 205 tilly sounds like an okay guy. Didn't come across as a schmuck. |

Tilley was sentenced to 200 hours of community service, one year of probation and $125 in fees. He will not have to serve any time in jail.

Of course, I was not there. And I don't know anything other than his bike could not do 205, as do all of you. However, pleading guilty to that charge totally wimps out, and gives credence to the cop who swore that he was very experienced clocking folks from the air. <cough...bull > He may have been experienced, but his trigger finger was too fast on the stopwatch to get 205 from a bike that does only 160 something. I'm pissed because I had hoped this would have been contested in court. And I'm more pissed because I live in the same State where this happened and am now liable to be convicted of 145 mph in a 65 mph zone when I was only doing 55 mph because...
-1 for the motorcycle sport.
-100 for the legal advise.
- infinity because of precedent for us.

| Re: interview with 205mph tilley he really is a squid. and on top of being stupid on the bike he's also stupid off it. he had evidence that the bike won't go that fast, doesn't prove he wasn't speeding excessively but 160 is cheaper than 205 (I assume they did reduce the fee as a ticket for even 130mph will get you for like $500)

| Re: interview with 205mph tilley He could have had it dismissed with a decent Lawyer. I'm not an expert but with proof 205 was impossible I don't think they could have just lowered it. He would have to state what speed he was doing and without an official speed via clocking or radar he may have been able to claim the 5th. |

I don't even really think he woulda needed a good lawyer, a court appointed one and the dyno evidence should have been enough
