| 954 trunk mod Now I'm a newbie to this site so apologies if this modification has been done/mentioned before:
As is well known among 954 owners, the tail trunk of the 954 is HUGE by sportbike standards - however the 3 plastic hooks that masquerade as a "document holder" intrude into the luggage space quite significantly.
As I will NEVER store my owners' manual in the trunk, I got out my dremel tool today and cut them off and then ground them flush. If I say so myself, the result is quite neat and now, when I put the shopping in the trunk, I do not have to worry about squashed pies etc. |

| Re: 954 trunk mod ndj that's very interesting. It makes a lot of sense. I just have to ask to satisfy my curiosity though...
Why would you not keep the owner's manual in it's place? I mean, I never thought about it before so I do keep mine there, but on the other hand I've never had to reference it on the road either.
As I said I never considered it, so I'm curious as to why you did, and whether to make this my next mod! |

Yeah, makes for a nice sleeper bed for you, but the rest of us need a little more room for our cell phones, wallets, and whatnot.

| The question is: Why would you want to carry the owners manual everywhere you go? Once I've read through the manual and adjusted suspension, etc. I keep it in a drawer with my other bike documentation. In the trunk it would take up valuable space. Besides, the trunk is not waterproof so the owners manual would get mouldy in time (as well as curled from hanging off the 3 hooks). Quote: |

| This sounds interesting. Got a link to this product? (The optional Honda cowl that replaces the pillion seat is not hollow and thus provides for no more space than the pillion seat - so it seems to me an expensive waste of time).

| Re: 954 trunk mod Thanks for your reply to my question. I have...lessee...a U-lock, toolkit, flat tyre fixer kit with 8 CO2 cartridges, shop towel, bungee net, PCIII and room for my wallet and cell phone. The owner's manual, along with registration and insurance is kept in a Ziplock sandwich bag in the spot we are talking about. However, more room is good! You're right, I really don't need to carry the manual.
So, what does everyone else keep in the boot? |

I carry a camera tripod, flat fixing kit (CO2, patches), the stock tool kit, PC3, extra helmet shield, bug cleaning stuff, rags, digital camera. Sometimes I stuff my electric jacket liner in there too. 929 trunk is a bit larger than the 954 though. |

the 3 20oz sodas I can fit in my trunk (929) is more than enough for me. and I still have the owners manual in there (put it in a little plastic bag so it won't get wet) tool kit, an emergency poncho and my kickstand footpad. others have said they can fit a footlong sub and a drink.

| Aha! Let me enlighten you a bit about Australian culture. In Australia we have a ubiquitous takeaway food called "the meat pie" (a hangover from our English heritage). These are usually about the diameter of a CD and usually these are filled with meat and gravy resembling and tasting like dogfood. It is the popularity of meat pies and beer that give the average Australian male the so-called "beergut". However, we have a bakery nearby that actually makes tasty pies that could even be called healthy. The menu includes Lamb stew pies and Red wine beef - my favourites. So sometimes I'll drop in to this bakery on my way home from wherever and pick up a pie or two and maybe even a dessert pastry as well (to share with my wife - don't want a beergut ). Putting them in the trunk sure beats stuffing them down my jacket!

| Yes. When I bought my 954, I asked the dealer about a seat cowl and he showed me one on a used 954 they had for sale. I couldn't see the point as it offers no advantage over the seat other than aesthetically. As BDA116 said, it is the same as the seat underneath. On top of that it is expensive and obviously easy to scuff with your boot when getting on and off the bike judging by the scuff marks on the second-hand one.
If I were to get a seat cowl I'd go for the Targa. I had a look at their site and as far as I could see it had no tabs or anything underneath. It would, as someone said, almost double the storage space.
