Where to get Camera mounts for the bike?

Well after looking through some of the gallerys and watching some of conq's "squidly" videos I am convinced that I need to get me one of those little cameras/camera mounts. Me and my friends do a lot of riding together and see a LOT of really cool things. I think that it would be nice to have a set up like that to play around with. I really liked the view from inside the headlight too, that looked great, plus there was not really a bunch of wind noise
So I guess my question is where is a good place to get mounts that dont get in the way? I dont mind riding with a pack on, as long as it is not too heavy, but I hate the idea of a "tripod" being stuck on my gas tank, where its right in the way and way to obvious.

I have one of these: helmet cam the only downside is you need a camera to record preferrably with a LANC connection (Sony or older Canon)

Re: Where to get Camera mounts for the bike?

LANC? local area network connection?
This is needed to get everything that you record onto your computer, right?
then you can change to dvd if you want? the camera the you mount on the bike is just a small one that is plugged into a larger one(like a camcorder or something?) I am kind of new at this stuff and really not that smart when it comes to computers, so in the words of Homer J Simpson "can you dumb it down a bit?"

No, LANC is something else...

I used a HelmetCamera.com lipstick camera like sheep pointed out. Connected it to a Sony camcorder. Just so your camcorder has RCA audio/video inputs, and will record, you'll be fine.

Re: Where to get Camera mounts for the bike?

Sweet, thanks guys, big help, that should get me started in the right direction.
Conq, How hard was it to mount the camera in the headlight? or is that a secret? I really liked that view

Re: Where to get Camera mounts for the bike?

I just removed the center bulb, and the camera fits nicely into the rubber "boot" that covered the bulbs on the 929...

I used a RAM mount for the other mount locations. (Other than the one where I had it stuck to my helmet.)

Re: Where to get Camera mounts for the bike?

I use the helmet mount. And yes you plug into the camera and run the camera in VCR mode. The advantage of LANC is you can control the camera with a single button. I put the camera in my backpack and turn it on and off via the LANC uses less tape and battery. I have used mine skiing, snowmobiling (vid from Yellowstone ) and of course on the bike. The only problem I had was the LANC switch broke from being tugged on and resoldered it, and my mic has gone bad (not much use anyway due to wind noise). During that time it got a fair amount of use and survived a ski crash or 3.

The only other problem you sometimes get is sunlight flash as you come down the hills in the evening (camcorder would probably be similar)

Re: Where to get Camera mounts for the bike?

I bought a dual lipstick cam setup from Bulletcam.com. They supply cam holders that you can stick anywhere on your bike or helmet. I've got the forward facing cam mounted on the fairing under the headlight and the rear cam mounted on top of the rear fairing. The camcorder sits in the trunk on my bike wrapped in foam. A LANC button lets you turn the camcorder on and off with a remote button you mount on your clipon somewhere. Bulletcam also set me up with a switch that I've mounted next to LANC button. It lets me alternate back and forth between the two cams. The setup works great (just remember to check that the cams are rotated in the correct orientation before you shoot an entire tape...I have great footage of the last Grattan event if you don't mind tilting your head 90 degrees to the left to watch it!)

I've also use the cam while snowboarding, too...

Re: Where to get Camera mounts for the bike?

This is the best Camera Mount Out there.....

Take an Old Helmet....... DOT or SNELL approved is not important..... you do not need one with a strap.

Go to the Garage and Find the Nicest Roll of Duct Tape....

Put Your Helmet On, Have a Buddy Hold the Camera to your Head and Wrap Several Layers of Duct Tape around your head, hence why no strap is needed.

then get a little plastic wrap..... and place over the lens.... for bug guard protection.

It works Awesome.... I did it on my last trip to Mukwanago Wisconsin
