Your dream trip

OK, summer is coming, and most of us are making plans. If you could do anything, go anywhere on bikes you now own, what would it be??

Mine may happen next year. I want to crate the TLR and ship it to the UK. Tour England for a few days, go to the Isle of Mann for part of the TT week, then on to The Emerald Isle to make the rest of the two week vacation.

Now, that would be expensive, you say. Well, nothing in the UK is cheap. A friend of mine went to the TT's a few years ago and rented a Triumph Daytona 600 for 10 days. The rental worked out to something hellish like $850 Cdn. I checked into it and it's like $1000 to ship a bike over there and back. I would love to say I rode that course on my Tiller (no speed limits outside the towns, don't cha know).

That, my friends, would be my dream trip. Anyone else up for that??

Re: Your dream trip

I have a couple of buddies from the UK and some still in the UK. We were thinking of watching the Isle of Mann races and riding around that area a few years ago. When it came to booking tickets (ferry crossing from the main land), we found out they were sold out. A matter of fact is that, some folks buy tickets and make accomodations nearly a year ahead of time.

I agree bike rentals are pretty pricey over, but being able to ride the Isle of Mann course after the race is over, is just awesome. I don't recall how many days they keep the course open for the locals to ride. If you ever do get over there and ride the Isle of Mann course, just be careful. My buddies tell me there is at least one fatality a year from all the yahoos riding the course once the race is over.

Got room for another bike in that crate? I think I know where I can find one to go...that sounds like a great trip, but, being all of 24, I dont have the resources to do something like that(yet). I will settle for the 1300km one way drive to tennesee can't beat it for the price. lots of scenery and lots of scary deliverance banjo picking if you get too far off the beaten path(dont ask)

Get your ass out here this august and come to sportbike west. I'll guarantee the best roads you'll ever ride. +no traffic, no cops.

That dream trip should include 3 days in Grattan, Michigan in June. You won't have to ship your bike and you'll have a much safer trip. Don't ask me how I know . . .

Re: Your dream trip

My dad toured down to Reno for the air races several years ago. That would be a good destination, great trip.

EDIT: Deal's gap doesn't appeal to me; I imagine there being way too much traffic. I'll make a video this summer of DH1 and we'll see how that compares to the "gap".

WOrst Trip:

Went camping in the mountains, ate a bunch of mushrooms. There was a fire ban that year and it was soooo cooooolldddddd. Also, leaves rustling and shadows moving in the bush can be terrifying.

Re: Your dream trip

Dream trip? I'd like to have about 4 months off (which won't happen) and ride across the country. Ride through Yellowstone, Glacier Park, down the coast of CA, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado. I don't know if I'll ever be able to do that. I'm thinking the next best thing may be to do one of the tours by Rocky Mountain Motorcycle Tours out west.

Other trips that will happen: Deals Gap (gotta check it out once), Fingerlakes region, more trips to Vermont.

Re: Your dream trip

Ahem, boys, the race is called the Isle of Man TT (not Mann).

That one would be near the top of my list, but right now I'm jonesing for someplace warm, sans snow.

I swear to all things holy, if I'm not remarried and tied down with a family when I retire (in as little as 6 years depending on contract negotiations between our labor union and the city), I'm outta here and am heading for AZ or CA or FL or NM or TX or......

What's so special about 26? You should be golden 'til 30
