| drain plug crush washer doing an oil change on my 1000rr this weekend.
I bought a new crush washer for the drain plug and I'm wondering if there is a particular way it's supposed to go on. The reason I ask is because it's a bi-metal washer, consisting of a harder, shinier metal and a more porous, dull metal.
Does it matter which way it goes on? |

| Re: drain plug crush washer Look at the washer that's already on the bike when you pull the plug, then you'll know?
Seems to me you don't need to change that washer anyway, but... |

| Re: drain plug crush washer You should change the washer every couple of times at least. Depends on how "crushed" it is. |

Does it matter which way it goes on? | Soft side to the block Rob. The hard side is against the head, and the soft side seals. |

Thanks.
I know it isn't absolutely neccesary to replace it, but I am keeping very strict maintenance records and going by the book... I bought extended warranty and if I have to bring it in for repairs I want bulletproof records.
BTW my name's Taylor |

| Re: drain plug crush washer what I don't understand is the washer for a 929 doesn't really appear to be a crush washer, more of a regular washer. I've only done a couple of changes and have replaced it each time ebcause its only like 40cents or something and he usually just grabs it and the filter at the same time when I ask for it

I try and change them if I remember but usually go at least a few changes on 1 washer. Just inspect it each time, if it looks like its getting mangled spend the .60 and get a new one |

| Re: drain plug crush washer I use mine 2 or three times before discarding. They do get smashed, and it probably throws off the torque reading if you keep reusing it. I used to replace it every change, but decided that it was probably overkill to do that. Now, on to brake caliper bolts... |

| Re: drain plug crush washer The first time I changed my oil I did not replace it. It leaked. I tightened it up hopping it would stop but it did not. I had to drain the oil and replace the crush washer. The leak stopped. I bought serveal more washers just to have spares. |
