| Buying a 954 on Monday Well after looking at a couple bikes I decided on an '02 silver/black 954 w/ 2400 miles on the clock for $6500. I think it's a good price considering this bike is immaculate and has that low of miles along w/ a slip-on and double bubble to boot. The last bike I had was a '00 929 which was stolen a year ago. The only thing I'm nervous about is that I didn't test drive this bike (owner wouldn't let anyone...afraid of them wrecking it). It started up no problem and sounds great...is there anything I should be worried about?
Thanks |

| Re: Buying a 954 on Monday Give him $500 and take it for a ride. If you wipe out, he keeps the $$ for the repairs. Just a thought. |

| Re: Buying a 954 on Monday I could do that...just bring some money in cash and the rest in a cashier's check. My car will parked there too so its not like I'll be running off or anything. |

| Re: Buying a 954 on Monday The typical thing I've seen recommended for buying a used bike is to draw up a contract. Something to the effect of the owner agrees to refund your money/buy the bike back if you're not satisfied. Set a time limit, like 30mins or 1hr. If you aren't happy with the bike and return it in the same condition as purchased, he refunds the money. |

No test rides unless I have all the money in my hands. Given back if bike not wanted and returned in same condition. No exceptions. You just never know. |

| Re: Buying a 954 on Monday That sounds like a fair deal. Since you're local in Charleston, there are a couple of people that could look at it for you, for free, or a six pack, to make sure that it's as clean as it sounds.
BTW, welcome to the org, and have a look at the local Charleston forum: http://www.dkf2.com/forum/index.php |

| Re: Buying a 954 on Monday Anyone correct me if i'm wrong...Look to see if it's got an indention by the vin number, if so it's had the steering head bearing recall done....
As far as riding before buying, I did not ride mine either, and I drove to indiana to get it(member from this board), you are gettting a fantastic deal as I paid around the same price ....also you should consider yourself lucky(silver and blk is the fastest 954). If contract thing and holding money dont work...you might have to ride bitch to hear how it sounds, or let him go by you a couple of times putting it thru the gears..are u getting any kind of warranty with it ?
Keep us posted |

| Re: Buying a 954 on Monday I don't know what size indention to look for but next to the first letter of the VIN "J" there is a tiny indention where it looks like someone took a ballpoint pen and a hammer and hit it so that it would make a small indention through the VIN sticker and into the frame. Is this it? Also noticed a lot of grease around the steering head? |

Haha I wonder how many guys would draw up a contract for 2 or 3 hours when they felt like takin a bike out for the arvo, and then bring it back and say "Thanks, it's great, but nah......... give my money". |

| Re: Buying a 954 on Monday I wouldnt let anyone drive my r6 when I sold it. You just never know what can happen. When I bought my 954 the guy wouldnt let me ride it neither. I watched him ride it and checked it over really well. You will be very happy with the 954. |
