Pirelli Tire Questions

I was looking at the new toy catalog and ordered some no cut sliders and a new Corsa for the front of the 1000RR. However they listed one just for the 1000RR, anyone know the difference? Also there was a Diablo Strada listed, anyone know anything on it? The Pirelli site loses me when I try to find meaningful info.

not sure about the special one for the 1000rr but if you look at Michelins website there's a specific Pilot Power for the R1. Still no idea what the difference is. The Strada is a Sport touring tire.

Re: Pirelli Tire Questions

The repsol comes with diablos corsa's on them so at a guess I would say the ones you saw advertised were designed for it. Just as the bridgestones for non repsol blades are specifically designed for the blade.

Re: Pirelli Tire Questions

I believe they make a OEM Corsa for the 1000RR, not just the Repsol edition but all of them. I saw a brand new 1000RR, last year so this was the '04 model, black, with a set of Corsa's on it at one of the local dealerships.

Just like Bridgestone and other tire makers you have a choice of going OEM (tires they put on the bike at the factory) or getting the off the shelf versions (not specifically designed for any bike).

The argument, as I understand it, is that the OEM versions are supposed to be designed with that particular bike in mind (obviously). It's supposed to improve or 'exploit' the handling characteristics of that specific bike model.

The other side of that argument is that the off the shelf/non model specific tires are supposed to be stickier than OEM. I did the comparo myself, sort of, I used a friend's BT010 OEM take off from his bike, still had lots of tread left after I picked up a nail in my BT010, off the shelf version. Not sure if it was just a mental thing (thinking about above mentioned argument while riding). But the OEM tires did seem to break loose easier coming hard out of turns. Of course they were not mounted on the bike they were originally intended for.

I just usually buy the regular tires and skip past the shoes designed for my specific model. No complaints.

Never heard anything about the Strada's??

Re: Pirelli Tire Questions

so whats different about the tires, compound, profile?

The Strada's are new so that's why no one's used them yet. Not positive if they're available yet but might be.

I'm guessing it's the compound, I think OEM's were designed to last a bit longer than the other tires (hence sacrificing some stick IMO). The profiles are the same. All of this is pure speculation on my part. I suppose a phone call to one of the manufacturers would clear things up a bit.

Re: Pirelli Tire Questions

Yeah, I seem to recall that 929s had model-specific Bridgestones on them also. But some of them came shod with Pilot Sports, and I don't think they were model specific. Whatever, I never looked for the model specific, as I started putting Diablo Corsas on them. I don't know about the Strada, but if it's a sport-tour model, you're not going to want that if you're going to the track.

Re: Pirelli Tire Questions

thanks all I ordered the Diablo Corsa for the RR. It was also about 10 bucks less so maybe it is overruns for Honda Sounds like no matter to me one way or the other. Agree HondaGal but just considering it for long distance RRing. Still trying to sort out what will be on the track at Grattan. The only known is that it won't be the Ascot
