| Went down yesterday only 2 times in 20 plus yrs.. First time I have been down on my 954, but I'm thankfull it was not any worse than it is, and now my cherry on it is popped but I'm hurt more than bike , guess I need frame sliders also..Here's the story...I bought some led's to put on my bike and went over to a friends house to get him to install them, he said it was a bit much for him, so we bullshitted around for about an hr, he has a tricked out "Busa", so my 954 was still holding it own (we never cranked them up, just talkin trash. Anyway, I said goodbye and let him know I'm going to swing by my boss house like 4 blocks away, to check on him since he is the Prez of our club, and he has been out sick since Monday. I stayed about 1 1/2 hr chillin and his wife gave me some bbq to take home, I loaded it in my knapsack, and proceeded to leave, their driveway is kinda a hill, I cranked up, let it warm for like 3 mins and up the hill I go, cars coming both ways so I stop, coast is clear, I feed it some gas & EASE OUT THE CLUTCH, bike gave a lil lurch and shut off, DOWN I WENT on the right side, I rolled and came to my feet embarrassed as hell as his wife and lil boy was in yard seeing me off, they came running, but i had bike up and was cranking it when they got there, I assured her I was ok, frame sliders got some character now as well as mirror but justa a lil..I rode about 2 miles and pulled over to really look at bike, it was fine but then i noticed I could not put all my weight on my foot...Long story short..My foot is swollen up, i tried heat and cold and it still hurts, I don't even remember putting my feet down, and the bike did not touch me. I will be going to hospital today, if it is still hurtin....Moral of story, You can get hurt and you do not even have to be moving, Yes I had on Leather jacket, gloves, boots and jeans. If anyone cares, I'll update later today if i'm not floating on cloud nine
P.S Last time I fell it was in my walkway on my f-2 like 10 yrs ago, I dented tank and broke mirror off, frame sliders were not in then |

We all learn from our mistakes. BTW, what frame sliders were you using, how long are they, and did they pull your motor mount out?
Hope the foot gets better. |

I hope it ain't dood, sorry about yer get-off!! |

| Re: Went down yesterday only 2 times in 20 plus yrs.. Damn! Sorry to hear that, sometimes the slow speed or even the no-speed falls can be the most painful/annoying. Heal up quickly and don't worry about it too much, happens to the best of us.
Ditto on getting your foot checked at the hospital. Buddy had a broken foot (that he didn't know about) and kept walking around on it for a couple weeks till he finally gave in and went to the doc (to find out that it was indeed broken).
As everyone else said could have been alot worse, hard to think this way but yes, consider yourself lucky. |

| Re: Went down yesterday only 2 times in 20 plus yrs.. Bummer! Glad to hear it wasn't any worse though. It's amazing how diligent we need to be on these bikes, especially at this time of year around here and other cold climates when the roads are pretty dirty. |

| Re: Went down yesterday only 2 times in 20 plus yrs.. might have been a slight lack in concentration and you just stalled. Those are the worst because you really feel dumb then. I dropped my bike when doing a really slow turn around on the street. I just wasn't strong enough to keep it from going over all the way but it went down so slowly I think I put a scuff in one of the stickers on the fairing and that was it. But I sure felt dumb.
Glad it wasn't worse. get the foot checked.

| Re: Went down yesterday only 2 times in 20 plus yrs.. Sorry about the bike, and sorrier about your foot.
Unlike many of my taller riding friends, I have extensive experience dropping bikes at low speeds, and I've learned to just get the hell out of the way, or roll off as the bike crunches down. I don't particularly care about the resultant scratches, but trying to save damage to the bike with your body usually ends unhappily.
edit: The reason I checked this thread is that I thought from the title that someone's wife had gotten control of the keyboard again....

Possibly you were letting the bike lug a bit to much, though remember to many bikes, the twist grip, on a 929 or 954, is almost like a Quick-Action twist grip so accidently you might have let the power slip to low & suddenly the power plant simply called it quits.

| Re: Went down yesterday only 2 times in 20 plus yrs.. gasoul , you indeed have my empathy (as I know it well!) and sincerest wishes that you are not looking at anything broken. Please keep us updated, as I am definitely wondering about what your visit to the doc reveals. Here's hoping that only bruises and swelling are in your future.
(I just got back from a conference in Las Vegas, so I'm a bit behind with reading the forums.)
Your story reminded me of something that happened about six years ago. My son and I were heading to Brainerd for the AMA races and were about half way into the 4 hour ride there when the weather suddenly changed and started raining, then winds picked up and the sky really darkened. We were about ten miles past the last town when I decided we should do a 180 and head for shelter. In order to do that, we took the first side road I could find and pulled into a parking area that was very steep on the exit. There was no way I could manage without asking my son to get off the bike until I pulled up to more level ground. Even with only myself on the bike, it was difficult to do. We made it back to the city and found shelter. Also avoided the tornado. Had the best delivery pizza in the hotel ever as well!!!
Famous quotes from CBRVFR ... just after taking off the boot for me "Man, that sucker is swelling up already!"
Don't forget this classic from Dave either..."Don't worry about that dent in the tank, it gives it character!"
To CBRVFR , as you are a member of Ye Olde Pharte's Clubbe, as am I, we both thought the same thing about the header.
Hopefully, this post gives you a slight smile as that was the intention. I know how badly it felt after riding for 15 years before I had my first 'incident' , but I got over it and went on to have several more!!!
I sincerely hope you are okay. PM me if you need a shoulder to cry upon. |

| Re: Went down yesterday only 2 times in 20 plus yrs.. Thanks to all for your well wishes,(have not seen a doc), tried to go and winded up waiting over 10 hrs in emergency, They said it was weekend and gunshots and stabbings, and sexual assaults take first priority ...so I went home, chairs to hard to sleep, didnt even give me a cold or hot anything to put on it ..I got a hold of a nurse friend and she is going to get me in tomorrow at her job (dentist but he has xray machine). I have been chuckling at the posts and trying to figure out exactly what went wrong,,I'm inclined to believe a lack of concentration, but it had done that once before last week, and I dismissed it as lack of concentration, maybe I need a tune-up...
I really do appreciate all the well wishes and friendly humor, I was laughing but now my underarms hurt from being on crutches.....
I have sato racing frame sliders, and no they did not pull out
I'll keep posting, oh my foot is what is hurt not ankle... |

| Re: Went down yesterday only 2 times in 20 plus yrs.. Final verdict is in : Ankle is only sprained, not broken..and it is the ankle and the foot that is sprained...who would have thought all that happens in just a tip over...I've seen one friend run off road at triple digits in a curve and walk out of the woods, no leather, no gloves and nike's on with only his clothes looking like the hulk, but ok nothing sprained nor broken, bike was totaled thou..i fall in boss driveway, and now i cant ride for 7 to 10 days..oh well, guess i'll take another pain pill and go ride on cloud nine... |

I sprained my ankle once and had the same exact symptoms you have. Swolen, hurts to walk, etc.. Hang in there and give a little time to recover.
