| Motorcycle Safety Foundation - Rider's Course I finally took the beginner's Motorcycle Rider Course at my local community college. I should have taken this last year but I procrastinated. I definitely recommend this to anyone who is new to motorcycles. I believe the MSF offers this at community colleges all over the country. Aside from learning how to execute the basics properly, there are a million little things you never think of that you will learn in the class and it will make you a better rider. Enrollment was $100 and every student has their own motorcycle throughout the course. It pretty much killed my weekend but it was worth it. Friday = 5:30pm-9:30pm, Sat = 7:30am-6:00pm but we finished by 4:45pm, Sun = 7:30am-5:00pm but we finished by 2:30pm. Everyone passed the course and now any of us can walk into the DMV and get our Class M endorsement without taking the DMV's test. For those interested, there is also an advanced course. Overall it was well worth the $100!!

| Re: Motorcycle Safety Foundation - Rider's Course Didn't Honda used to pay like $75 towards the MSF course when you bought a new bike? Money well spent regardless of the cost.

| Re: Motorcycle Safety Foundation - Rider's Course Check with your insurance provider. I know some will actually discount your cycle insurance once you've taken the course. That's the real financial benefit. |

I've heard figures from students ranging from $200 / yr to $3500 / yr. |

| Re: Motorcycle Safety Foundation - Rider's Course Free in the state of Pennsylvania. Actually the cost of your permit covers it. $16. I took the test many years ago and re-took the test with the wife about five years ago. Upon completion of the test your permit automatically become a license. Never even see a Pa. State Trooper. No offense Chain, I just have an aversion toward authority figures. |

| Re: Motorcycle Safety Foundation - Rider's Course Thanks for posting this, I need to go take the experienced course again, I like to take it every couple of years, just to refresh, that and my insurance companies only allows the discount with a 3 year window of taking the course. |

| Re: Motorcycle Safety Foundation - Rider's Course I took it a couple years ago. I think it was $225 for the beginner course. All I can say is I definetly woulda have paid more if it was more. I don't think you can use your own bike in the beginner course but in the advance course you used your own. The only part of the little license test at the end (all the manuevers you had done the previous couple days) was this simple right hand curve I actually took on the wrong side of the cones. I took it tighter than it was. Oh well. I got sorta yelled at a couple times for getting into third. Another kid did also. We used little Honda Rebel 250s, fun little bikes. I also get a discount on insurance, not sure how much it is though. It's not listed on my coverages pages anywhere as an amount but its on there.

| Re: Motorcycle Safety Foundation - Rider's Course I believe here in CA it's $100 if you're under 21 years old and around $250 if you're over 21. |

| Re: Motorcycle Safety Foundation - Rider's Course For the lazy: http://www.msf-usa.org/
and for the really lazy Californians: http://www.ca-msp.org/RiderCourse_Lo..._locations.htm
CA Basic: Fees range from $150 for students under 21 to $198 for others depending on the training site. Most motorcycles used in the course are loaned by local dealers and are either 125cc or 250cc.
CA Experienced: Using your own motorcycle, you'll put into practice the techniques of managing traction, stopping quickly, cornering and swerving. The ERC Suite courses may qualify graduates for insurance premium discounts with some motorcycle insurers. |
