| Mouthy righteous granny I went for a ride on Sunday with my dad out to Bragg Creek. (popular mc gathering place and staging ground for twisty roads at the foot of the Rockies)
Went for a spin down my favorite local twisty road (hwy 762) and may have passed a few cars. I get to the end and pull over to wait for my dad to catch up and this Pathfinder pulls up and this old lady in the passenger seat motions me over.
"Are you the guy who was going really fast?"
me: Yup.
"well I hope they don't spend too much money scraping you off the road"
me: Ya me either thank you very much though I appreciate that. You know, I especially hope they don't spend to much scraping me off the road after someone like you talking on their phone while driving runs me over.
"I don't talk on my phone while I drive"
me: well that's nice why don't you get the **** out of here
Of course I thought of a million things I could have said to her after she left. She looked like a smoker. I should have suggested that they don't spend too much money keeping her alive and cutting tumors out of her lungs.
What a bitch. Who says something like that? Big deal I passed her on an empty country road. I wasn't even going that fast. |

Besides in the US and Canada most unhappiness is self inflicted as the peoples are prosperous.

| Re: Mouthy righteous granny You forget...."she has rights", .......the right to interfer with anything you do which she does not approve of (for whatever reason).
She has the right to complain about anything you do, that she doesn't.....and the right to make sure that you stop doing it....because that way she isn't missing out on anything.
She also has the right to speak out about things she doesn't understand, that way it makes her feel better about her own inadequacies.
She also needs the right to stymy anything that is adventurous/dangerous/risky so that her life is kept as pure and safe as possible, thereby protecting her from any and all possible dangers that may lurk out there and keep her life absolutely responsibility-free.
Just a case of some busy-body who doesn't know **** from shinola. Equally insulting is the fact that when she pulled over she wasn't even sure you were the one who had annoyed her....she didn't care that you may have been some other motorcyclist who just happened to be there!!!!!
Forget about her.....she'll get hers!!!!! |

| Re: Mouthy righteous granny It's all about perception guys. Here's a woman who has progressed in years, things deteriorating in front of her very eyes. She probably lost her husband some time ago, and is just hanging out waiting for her time to come. She's headed home after a long day of knitting and baking cookies, and here comes some hooligan on a crotch rocket blowing her off the road. Damn right she's going to tell you something.
Now, your perspective. You are tooling down the road making the most of the twisty sections when you round the bend. There's a q-tip plugging along at what seems to be a snail's pace. A simple flick of the wrist, and lean to and fro, and she's a blip in your mirror. You give her about as much thought as the countless mailboxes you pass along the way.
Problem is, you two met up later on down the road. Truthfully, what she said was pretty damn funny. You could have told her that no matter what it costs, she would be contributing through her hard earned tax money. Or better yet, you could have offered her a ride? Why not. My mom turned 65 and had a wish. She wanted me to take her on the bike and go over 100mph. She enjoyed every second. Call her bluff next time, offer her a ride.

I must admit that over the years I have shot past cars at very high speed, treating them as just some nuisance on the road. As is to be expected, they were (annoyingly) travelling at what appeared to me to be a snail's pace (probably the legal speed limit!)
Then, one day, many years ago, I was driving in my car at about 65mph and this "hooligan" frightened the **** out of me by appearing out of nowhere and passing me on his motorcycle at a terrific speed to get in front of me and get a good line for the approaching bend. He literally made me jump out of my comfortable car seat and made my heart leap into my mouth. "Holy Crap!" I said to myself, "Where the Fu*# did he come from!!!" Then I noticed that he was riding a very small and not very fast bike (It was actually a 200cc Triumph Tiger Cub, 15hp and barely capable of 80mph.....I told you it was a long time ago!) That made me realise what it must be like when I flash past cars at much, much, much higher speeds. If a little Tiger Cub could startle me, then a CBR1000RR/GSXR1000/R1 .....coming past you in the triple digits must be enough to frighten the begeebers out of you!!!! |
