| almost crashed today with a friend I pulled the bike out today and checked the alignment/chain slack because I had just put the rear wheel back on yesterday. Went inside to catch more of the replay of the MotoGP race and caught the last few laps where Rossi bumped Giberneau. Well my friends get to my house then we go to the gas station and me and a friend proceed to do our impression of the that bump. The gas station entrance is just after a side street. So I put my directional on to take the right into the station and a friend of mine was behind me and to the right with a couple more friends behind us. So I slow down and start to take the turn when my friend dissappears from my view, next thing I know he's right next to me. So I turn back away from him and he was hard on the brakes and still ended up tapping my rear wheel with his front wheel. So I get sideways a little but get it back in line without any trouble and we go into the gas station. The 2 that were behind us looked like this and said that was an awesome save. I let them think that but it wasn't as bad to me as it probably looked from behind. So neither of us went down and no damage.

| Re: almost crashed today with a friend Sounds like you need to find a new riding friend. If a guy doesn't know enough to keep a safe following distance or otherwise endangers the both of us with inattentiveness or reckless riding, I don't ride with him any longer.
Glad you're okay and didn't take a spill. |

Glad you're ok! It's always fun to see who responds and view the age - and its always the same thing - young guy does something stupid (me being the young(er) guy) then the older guys rag and say how they would never be caught dead riding with someone like that - at least not now anyways, lol!
Oh well, in the life there are two bags - one is a full bag of luck, the other is an empty bag of experience - the trick is to fill the bag of experience without using up your bag of luck
Cheers.

I like that a lot.
I think some of you guys wouldn't ride with him after riding with him once or twice. He's young (only a few months younger than me but still only 24 and this is our third season riding) so maybe he'll start to get better with the stupid stuff. You know settle down and just enjoy riding for the sake of riding. I'm glad he has a heavy as bike thats hard as hell to wheelie because I'd really worry about him if he had a lighter more powerful bike.
Jami you gotta be able to laugh at it afterwards. No one was hurt and nothing was damaged so chalk it up as a lesson learned. The ironic part of the whole thing is my left directional was blown out but we were taking a right and that one was working (went to replace that bulb right after we left the gas station)
The "rubbing is racing" part was just a joke. I'm sure you all know its from Days of Thunder. We werent' racing or anything. The light at the intersection had just turned green when we were about to come to a stop so he was just getting up to normal road speed. I guess I'll use my hand signals all the time instead of just some of the time. He must not have heard me at my house when I said I had to get gas.

Rubbing is part of motorcycle racing too.
This "incident" was a bit more than a rub though.
And pulling into a gas station ain't freakin' racing.

But it was close because he was speeding up going straight and I was slowing down and turning. Either way it would have been his fault but no harm no foul.

Easy to miss a directional, but relatively hard to miss the rider in front of you using a hand signal. Not to mention the yahoo in a cage behind you may miss your directional one day. |
