Slider installation - success!

http://www.yoyodyneti.com/

That wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I got a sharp new 1-1/16" plastic/metal/wood holesaw from ACE. It would prove to do a fine job on cutting through the plastic without boogering up the paint.

Finding the place to drill my pilot hole was a little bit of a chore. I tried Play-Doh, but the crap would not stick to the inside of my fairing. When I finally got it to cling long enough to leave an impression from the engine mount bolt (which I had backed out so it could make contact with the Play-Doh), I disturbed the imprint as I removed the fairing. Grrr.

The laser taped to a stepladder and pointing at the center of the engine mount bolt method didn't work because you couldn't see the dot on the bike's red pearl paint. Maybe I had too much light in the garage or the laser I was using (an old pointer of my roommate's) was weak.

On to Plan C then... triangulation. Yep, borrowed a little trick from my days working accidents and was able to drill two nearly perfect holes in the plastic. The photos of the finished product speak for themselves.

Re: Slider installation - succsess!

Has anyone here ever experienced a set of sliders where, after torquing the bolts down, one slider turns by hand? Believe it or not, my 954's left hand slider spun by hand. So does my busa's! Two different bikes, two different manufacturers, two different brands of sliders. How crazy is that???

After awhile, they almost will all spin...the bolts tighten on the collars, not the sliders....eventually the plastic creeps....

Personally, I like the factory Honda sliders....

Why does only one side turn then? I recall my Honda being the same way. Odd.

And what do you mean, the plastic "creeps"?

Just coincidence I'm guessing....manufacturing tolerance..

Creep is when a plastic slowly deforms under load....viscoelastic flow of the material over time...

I'd be happy to, my brotha (assuming you're talking to me)!

I'm pretty retentive about my mods. I measured a couple different ways before I was sure I had the spot right, then I let fly with the drill. Turned out about as close as you could hope to get it.

You should have seen when I cut the holes in my car door to put in the component system. I must have measured 100 times and still didnt want to cut into them lol.
