| got rear ended this morning I'm too sick of today to put up any decent kind of post so I just do my usual trick and thrown in a link. http://www.netrider.net.au/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8010 Summary
Me: Mild whiplash
Bike: rear wheel was wedged under the cars bumper so I doing fall over.....bent number plate, scratched mudguard, marks on tyre. Other than that nothing obvious...wheel seems to be true and waiting to see if the rear tyre is holding its pressure and will get the wheel and swingarm checked to be sure.
Worse thing is the lost time when I needed all the time I could get and a ride I was looking forward to this weekend is in jeapordy depending on how I pull up the next few days. Meanwhile the stupid bitch that did it has got off scott free and it hardly delayed her life at all and the cops thus far don't seem to give a ****.

| Re: got rear ended this morning that sucks, what a ****ing bitch (the cops too). In Massachusetts the person who does the rearending is always at fault. It doesn't matter if you stop short, they are still at fault for following too close. A few years ago MA changed it from being an accident to being a crash because they say it can always be prevented which is bs sometimes.
glad you weren't really hurt though. I agree hurt the lady in the pocket. Or get yourself a copy of Soldier of Fortune magazine and find a mercenary

Yer I've been pointing out my good fortune over the last few weeks to people who think I've had bad luck, all my incidents could have far far worse.
Feeling pretty good today so I think the ride should be still on. |

Without being harrassed by the police, that is. Seriously, that just sounds like plain and simple dereliction of duty on the part of the police. That said, glad you weren't hurt worse, and I hope that neck pain doesn't come back to haunt you - DAMHIK... |

| Re: got rear ended this morning Ok!
Reported the accident to a different police station this morning.
Got a claim setup with the TAC to cover medical expenses
The driver called me to see how I was doing
A delivery truck backed into the roller door at work, my bike was 1 metre behind that door and by the looks of the impact marks my bike had been nicely lined up. As result up until 10 minutes ago my bike was trapped in the garage but I'm free again.
My back and neck are still a bit stiff and sore but I think I should be ok, and should be able to go on my 1300km odd trip this weekend.
Looks like there is a slow leak in the rear tyre still have to get the wheel and swingarm checked out as well as organising a quote for the driver. |

That said, glad you weren't hurt worse, and I hope that neck pain doesn't come back to haunt you - DAMHIK... | Just said the magic words when I reported it this time...injury and TAC and they took my report without question.
Seems the best thing to do when you have an accident is request an ambulance, by default the police are automatically required to attend and the driver doesn't get all narky becuase you are asking for a cop to book thier arse. You get checked out, the police make thier report, people are charged if needs be and the TAC claim is lined up without have to do all the running around that I've had to do in the last 36 hours. So regardless of how tough you are trying to be, get an ambo to the accident.
TAC will cover the hospital visit from yesterday straight off the bat and if I rack up more than $570 of expenses they cover the rest of it and they will also cover any claims made further down the track if problems develop. |

| Re: got rear ended this morning I would have waited until a cop showed up.... incidently, something similar happened to my buddy while him and his now wife (then GF) were on the HWY in rush hour traffic. My idiotic non-confrontational buddy just rode away, I was like: I'd nail that driver to the wall.... I mean, your GF was on the back for crying outloud.
But at least no one was hurt. |

Z... | Had it been the other way around, had you rear ended her, the cops would have been there like flies on ****. And of course you would be the cause of the accident because you were obviously speeding......and ran into the back of her. They would have written you a ticket as you lay on the asphalt! |

| Re: got rear ended this morning Good advice you should have taken your own Matt. If you even think you might be injured get an ambulance like you said traffic accident, cops come, forms get done!
Mate of mine said no to an ambulance after getting rear ended picked up his bike and rode off minimal damage, 30 minutes later after the adrenaline goes his wrist starts to hurt, so it should have it was shattered in half! Major surgery,, major pain in the arse making a claim afterward too! |

| Re: got rear ended this morning Unfortunately you live in Australia. Now here in Canada the city police or RCMP would have really taken this seriously. Probably the same in the States.
Some yrs back on a road being rebuilt I stopped with care on the gravel & heard tyres locked wheels sliding as gravel flew. Did not look around & no did not try to get off that loose grave. Simply braced for the impact from behind.
It was a beaten up old Honda Civic that went by me within inches & then bumped into the 3/4 ton truck up ahead though no marks or damage on the truck.
During the bit of conversation between the two I was able to haul out a pen & write down LP number. I cannot remember numbers. Reported it to the RCMP & had a phone call that evening that the cage was owned by some woman & that it was her b/f that was driving it PLUS a few other reports of a drunk driver in an old silver like Honda Civic. This babe would not give the chaps address.
You know for something like around 9 months I would receive a 'phone call from the same Constable of their progress. Said joe had hiked it off to some place in northern B.C., & then missed him, same in Calgary alberta & missed, to even some place in Edmonton Alberta, to some place north of Edmonton.
I think they knew who he was & were trying to catch him for something else as well----possibly drug related. Still last time I said I felt the RCMP had done an amazing job of trying to catch him I thanked him & fellow Constables. So THERE is a difference in that he did not even hit me!!!!!! This Constable simply kept trace of said chap & would report things to me as they went along. Who the Constable was I really do not have any idea even though he gave me his name each time, for again I cannot remember names as well.
Possibly he realized I was the h/gun director-instructor at our Club & the RCMP use our range with our consent & they must contact me so that we know & in that way none of our members will be on the range at the same time. I am making sure the RCMP have privacy when practicing or any training they carry out on our gun range.
Fact is recently the RCMP have been using the range quite a bit in training Axillary RCMP. They do not carry f/arms, but the baton & such plus so many are also being trained to ride bicycles due to so many tourists at our two lake beach areas. Like how to take down a person & such. I am getting this from one of our young h/gun shooters that is now a qualified Axillary RCMP Constable with hopes of joining the RCMP two yrs from now.

| Re: got rear ended this morning Alls well that ends well.
Finally found some time to go and get a quote and emailed it to the woman who hit me. To my surprise she transfered the funds to me the next day ($572.01).
The quote included:
2 mudguard brackets L & R
1 Mudguard
1 reflector
2 muffler brackets L & R
1 190/50/17 Pilot Power Rear Tyre
1 rego plate
1 hours labour.
So I've got some new rubber out of it at the very least. Still didn't need all that stuffing around. |
