929s don't make good canyon bikes

or so I was told. So about 2 months ago. After Riding the canyons all morning to mid after noon on my 929 I went to meet some friends somewhere then go to dinner. While I'm parking and sitting with my bike. If full suit, someone walks up checking out the bike. He tells me 929 isn't a good canyon bike.

So after questing him on this brilliant comment of his. It turns out he has one, for his first bike. And his buddy with a R6 told him the 929 doesn't corner

All this while its sitting there with worn to the edge trackday used tires, I'm in full gear with worn knee pucks from doing trackdays. And this newbie is telling me the bike I've been riding for almost 3 years and have done almost 20 trackdays with doesn't handle

To make a long story short I informed him to sell it, get a ex250, tell his friend he's an idiot and should learn whats he's talking about before he makes a stupid comment like that.

actually sounds to me like he bought what he thought was a faster bike and got his ass handed to him by a 600.

I was at a bike show one time and overheard someone ask if a Yamaha M1 was faster than an R1. Most people don't know

Exactly. That just proves his point that some people are clueless.

My SV650 is faster than an R6 because it's got 50 more cc's...

But my 929 is faster because the speedometer reads higher.

Re: 929s don't make good canyon bikes

I have to say that in stock trim the kid who said that 929 aren't good canyon bikes was right! I rode my friend Erics bike last year and was really unimpressed, it was slow and really didn't handle well at all. I rode it again the other day now that it has race tech gold valves and springs and a penske shock with a power commander and Jardine slip on and WOW!!!! What a difference. Stock 929's suck but a few careful dollars makes a huge difference. It now feels like a proper handling bike. Although even with a dampner it will still shake it's head pretty easily.
