I know its not a Honda, but.....

I saw a good deal on an 81 Kawasaki LTD 550 locally, I was thinking of buying it. I had one back in the day, but never went far on it. I want to use this one to head back to California in late summer. Can anyone offer me some information on this bike? I was thinking it might be too small for modern highways.....

I was trying to find a good V65 or something but they're few and far between

Re: I know its not a Honda, but.....

I have an '82 Virago 750 (which should be sold by this weekend.)

I would say the 550 is a little small for highway speeds. A few years back I had a 650 Maxim, and I felt like I was really pushing it around 55 or 60mph.

Even though it's only a 750, which was big back then, the Virago is much smoother getting to and at highway speeds.

If it's a good deal, why not just keep it off the hwy and have fun with it?

My '84 Ascot is a 500 and while it can do highway speeds it is wroking at it. Also you have very little acceleration left so a***ole avoidance is harder on the Kaw

Re: I know its not a Honda, but.....

I was seriously considering a Virago, shaft drive is better and it looks like a more stable, reliable bike. I'm worried that coming from a 900RR, it might feel like a minibike. I gotta get back on the road and its hard to do that with the 900RR. I was looking for a bike I could take all over and not really worry about it. Strictly an adventure bike
