What Octane to use?

What octane of gas can the CBR 600, 900, 1rr handle without adversely affecting engine performance or reliability. Since normal driving or canyon carving does not require max HP can the bikes run off of 87? I think the f4i's manual states 89. I only run what I would term “good gas” chevron or 76 with separate pumps for each grade.

An off topic question. What tire pressure should I run for Dunlop D208s on an f4i (street). Currently 32 front 36 rear.

Re: What Octane to use?

even the manufacturers manuel states to NEVER run the motorcycle on less than 91 octane. It states that doing so can cause harm to the engine. I dont think that street riding or canyon riding are relavent.

RON vs Octane ratings

The manual states 91 RON (research octane number)- which is regular 87 CLC (U.S. Cost of Living Council) octane in the U.S.

95 RON is premium 91 CLC in the U.S.

So, regular unleaded is fine, actually burns more easily, and is the best choice to use in a vehicle designed to run it. Bumping up to premium only will cost you more to fill up.

Re: What Octane to use?

The only reason it says to use premium gas is because it costs more. It's all part of Bush's evil plan to rule the world with his mythical oil company. The premium gas doesn't cost any more to make, but they charge more for it simply out of greed. Bush went to war in Iraq for only one reason. Not to help anyone, but to create a pipeline stealing all the oil and putting it into his own personal tanks for use by his mythically created oil company. He then told the bike manufacturers to make people believe they had to use premium gas so he could overcharge for it and line his pockets with 100% profit.
In other words: No, Honda does NOT require premium fuel for you bike, and michael moore and his followers are complete ****tards.

Please explain this to me then...my owners manual for my 2005 VTX says that running 87 octain is o.k. The owners manual for my 954 says to use nothing lower than 91 (and there is no RON behind that number). So, in your opinion, is Bush only greedy some of the time...or is it only to sport bike riders and he's leaving the people on cruisers alone?

Re: What Octane to use?

You buy a genuine race vehicle, engineered to the nines with trick technology, and want to save $.20/gal on fuel by not running premium?

I guess they could've saved a few cents here and there feeding Seabiscuit cheap ass hay and rotten fruit only too, there was a depression on....

You must have one of those special race engined 954's.
My ordinary 954's manual says to use unleaded 86 or higher, on pages 91 and 208.

..or seriously, maybe you have a euro manual?

Re: What Octane to use?

my 929 manual says 87 so thats what I put in. When I first got it I put in 93 but after reading the manual switched and there's no problems to speak of. don't waste the money.

Check your "owners manual" the 954 is designed to run on 86 octane or higher. The number "91" under the passenger seat in the tail is the RON number......
