| Crash.... well crashed I guess I always knew it could happen, that's why I wear the gear I do, but I just didn't think it would happen like it did. I was commuting between our facilities yesterday and I decided to take Canoga Ave, which I never take, and it turned out to be the wrong choice. Traffic was thick but moving at about 40 mph. There is a masonry supply company about a block up the road and one of their trucks turned into their entrance. The lady in front of me panicked and slammed her brakes to the point that she engaged her anti-lock system. Because of the masonry company there, the road is typically covered with a healthy layer of sand and debris. I had no options other than to hit her, or try move over. I couldn't move over because there were cars all around me so I grabbed the brakes and before I knew it I was sliding head first through traffic. I don't know how I wasn't run over, when the curb stopped my sliding I jumped up on the sidewalk and noticed an extremely nervous driver in a red coupe about three feet from me. My bike must've done one hell of a stoppie because it launched me and it slid a good 20 yards and came to rest under the next semi in line to turn in. In all the bike was okay, the frame sliders and other equipment worked well. My helmet (new) is done and my Joe Rocket RASP jacket is actually melted in places. I only have a little rash on my knee because my legs barely hit the ground until I stopped at the curb. My shoulder is swollen and sore but that was expected. The worst part is that this was reported as an "on the job accident" because I was in the middle of my daily responsibilities. Brand new bike will have to be fixed and the helmet replaced, but it could've been a lot worse. I've gone down before but under my own stupid decisions, I've never gone down in traffic. All I can keep thinking about is how I didn't get run over, it's pretty upsetting to think I was out control sliding unprotected with cars barreling down on me. I'll get over it, but it was experience I care to never repeat. Anyway, this is probably my longest post since I joined 00 or 01 but I finally had something to say.... |

| Re: Crash.... well crashed ****, sorry to hear Crash, glad you're hear to tell the story. I'm sure it could have been a completely different story if one of theose cars had hit you. The bike is just plastic and metal and can be replaced/fixed. Glad you walked away. |

| Re: Crash.... well crashed Damn, I think you're right Bake. It appears "the force" will not be happy until all of the "regulars" have a crash this year.
Sorry to hear er...Crash. I saw a grill coming at me once but somehow was lucky like you. I will never forget that terrible terrible feeling.
Glad you're OK! |

| Re: Crash.... well crashed Wow sorry to hear about the incident. Just a reminder I suppose that we do participate in a dangerous sport and it only takes one second to change everything because so much of what happens is a result of circumstances out of our control. Glad to hear you came out relatively unscathed. I had just put frame sliders on my F3 a couple of months before I dropped it.... they are worth their weight in gold! |

| Re: Crash.... well crashed Thanks guys... Four wheels to work this morning.
My company won't cover damage to the bike, just to me if something long term should come from this.
My name stays... I've had it for almost 20 years . It's either Crash or Rut Boy... I prefer Crash.
And I agree that something is in the air. There have been more crashes from "regulars" this year than I can remember we've ever had.
Just be safe and "Dress for the crash, not the ride!" I'm gonna start wearing my Joe Rocket Pants from now on.
Thanks again guys... |

| Re: Crash.... well crashed wow sorry to hear of yet another one going down. Atleast we all have a little comfort in knowing that none of the crashes this year were as bad as they could have been.
I think when I go to pick my bike up from the stealership I'm gonna finally order that back protector I should have gotten a long time ago. Think I might go with an A* Tech.
Go get that shoulder checked out to make sure there's no damage in there. Now remember the note to self, don't take that road again on a bike.

Is this a requirement to be a member of the .org, having a wrecked bike. Guess when I get mine i'll just throw it down in the parking lot. | | |
